It's really not a bad deal for 34,477 BD miles. (or, ~70K if you've already exceeded 55K).

Where are you getting 34K? I maxed out around 26K.

Legally that's a crime in all but I think one state. NY State has it as a felony. I can't even use the term engineer as a PE in a state I'm not licensed in. I can't even distribute business cards in Texas w/o the card saying what states my PE is in if it's not Texas.

No. You're paying 1.5cpm and would have to use them out of that account so you cannot combine them with your status or existing balance to really maximize the value of the reward. I'd skip it.

I also wouldn't have bought at $950/ticket. That is crazy  territory for NYC-SJO fares unless it is Christmas or something.

No, I would get them for $.007/mile. I would pay for (2) new tickets @ $325 each and (2) redeposit fees of $150 each. So basically its $950 for 140,000 miles.

That is very true. Most licensing boards don't have the teeth to go after people w/o a formal complaint and even then they don't have the personel to do it. NY has the teeth but going after Madoff and friends brings in so much more press. New Hampshire on the other hand activiely goes after people as they use is a form of revenue enhancement in these tough times. $2,500 to $3,500 fines can add up in a small state like that. Pennslyvania does big crack downs w/o the fines every few years to make sure job titles are in compliance.

Perhaps you'll get lucky and be on a reconfigured Ted aircraft.

Unlikely...
