You can book the new Business class on all  equipped SQ aircraft

A380

77W + soon retrofited 773 old school

SQ calls them Standard awards which require double miles .

They are running a a 50% discount for SFO-SIN and DME-IAH as well as some other routes.
JFK-FRA-SIN is still 747 for now so saver awards are still available ,
LAX-NRT-SIN is going to 77:rolleyes: so that will be double miles as well.

and no Suites reward at all .

It's great when a company is 54% government owned and doesn't really have to show a profit.

It is available only at sleezypass rates.

The good thing about SQ is that they allow One Way rewards.

right now I can get JFK-FRA in C for 30 K

If you are on the A380 you could only upgrade to C using a standard (DOuble ) upgrade , what is the route ?

BKK-SIN (772)
SIN-SYD (a388)
SYD-SIN (744)
SIN-BKK (772)

How many miles would it be to upgrade SIN-SYD and/or SYD-SIN?

They actually do turn a profit , the thing is that there are many companies in Singapore that have contracts with them and will fly nothing else, Their Y product is great so people fly them all over asia , and they compete with QF on SYD-SIN-LHR , so that was a huge market for them.

SO all this makes them arrogant, now they kind of put themselves in a bind by hedging fuel at high rates , so they wont lower surcharges .

SIN-SYD 70 K per person ( it would be 90 for the flight award instead of upgrading, their numbers are insane)

SYD-SIN 35 K per person ( 45 K for the flight )

Wow! So, I'm looking at 210k miles to upgrade both of us round trip.

Y, here we come!

Yeah , I heard the upgrade rates were insane , and they were not really worth it when comparing to just booking the whole ticket on miles .

I'd possibly consider the 70k for the SYD-SIN segment, but the other part of the problem would be coming up with SQ miles.

The easiest way is Amex MR
I used to have a guy who had a very huge amount of MR , I traded with him on CC many times , but he got into a fight with Amex and cleaned his accounts.

ETA: SPG was also a good source because they would throw in a bonus m but the ratio went to 2:1

The other problem you could possibly have is that the 744 may be swapped and I could see SQ holding out on the upgrades and then not clearing them because they knew a equip change would happen .

sdm1130 Mar 11, 2009 10:14 pm

I'm sure I know the answer to this, but does SQ ever offer paid upgrades at check in?
