I dunno how modern it was, but I think the Tu-154Ms were rolling off the assembly lines in the 80's. So, they're half as old as the NW DC-9s. They did have the wood trim and sewn murals on the bulkhead, though (have pics of the murals).

I was on a 154M, so it was likely from the 80s as well. The interior looked much older. Did they serve your meals on the burnt orange plates? Classic...

Sewn murals huh? Maybe the weight of the wood carved murals was too much with rising fuel costs? :D I'll have to dig up my picture of the wood mural.

I know - I had a laugh as I was typing it. Maybe I should have said "more modern"? :D

One of my flights was on RA-85642 (I'll have to check the delivery date) and the interior was straight out of the 60s/70s! Unfortunately, I missed the tail # of the return flight but the interior was just the same.

The two I flew on operated by then Pulkovo Aviation Enterprises had navigators. I didn't check the date or get the registry number as I was not all that interested in it at the time.

I got an exit row seat where I noticed the door came in and out as the plane pressurized and de-pressurized.

I missed the pictures, and Hartmann apparently.

I probably left right before you showed up. Even leaving at 10pm, I didn't get home until near 11... I-10 was down to one lane.

Nope. Fairly standard white china for my flight.

MilesDavis May 28, 2008 10:29 am

I arrived at La Carafe about 9:30 and we broke it up about an hour later.

Yeah, I would say we left right before you came... I dunno where I got 10pm from.

OT: Amex Going Once trips

Sorry for the OT, but has anyone bought the AMEX "Going Once" trip packages before? Since I trust this crowd, just wondering about experiences and value. Thanks!

Is there such a thing as off topic here in the box.

MilesDavis May 28, 2008 12:08 pm

Good point, but I just wanted to check all of the disclaimer boxes.

Well, today's Hawaii trip includes a flight on AQ from Maui to Kauai, so that is a little problem in my mind. Without knowing what types of restrictions they place on booking dates for the flights and hotels I would be wary, and the prices aren't all that great in my view.

SuckAir Eliminates Peanuts & Simultaneously Hikes Fares. As if I needed another reason not to fly them.

Also, most liberal arts undergraduate degrees are worthless from an employment perspective, but many people with such degrees want to work for a year or two before graduate school. The person with the degree from the prestigious school always has the presumption that "he/she went to XYZ, he/she must be good" working for them when trying to find that semi-decent, entry-level corporate job to tide them over until grad school (again, IMO).

With respect to 2), graduate and professional schools are so unbelievably competitive these days, and the top schools favor students from other top schools so strongly, that it makes sense to pay more (if you can afford it) for a top undergraduate program if you are focused on attending a top graduate or professional school program.

My two liberal arts degrees got me nowhere. I almost (read: one class short) got an AAS on top of the AA and BA, if that can be believed. If the concierge thing gets to be too much of a drag at some point, I can get an MA/MS in Hotel Management and by the time it's done be a 30-something with a master's and no managerial experience.

oh ConciergeMike...

All of the segments haven't posted, but since that was not an originally set condition, I'll settle for one. Two ConciergeMike drink chits it is. :)

The Box as a whole is a conglomeration of off-topicness. On a more serious note, I think OT here is constituted as being the first Box regular to introduce a new tangent.

ETA: Which I'll do right now...I went from getting the banner ad promos for AX Plat to getting my first 25K point offer in the mail the other day. Is it safe to assume that sweetness of Amex offers are in direct proportion to ignoring the offers and improving my score?
