I'm attemping to book a discount A fare. 3/4 legs have booking class A available. However, 1 doesn't. Continental.com won't pull the discounted A fare because of 1 A missing.

The way United works is that IF a first class booking class is not available, it will simply book you in Y but still make the A fare valid. I know Delta does the same.

Is there a way of doing this? CO.com won't let me do it :(

Try Expedia. It's an A fare, so you shouldn't suffer any loss of EQM for booking beyond CO.com.

Wow, looks like UA has finally decided to clean up its nasty aircraft cabins.

Guess this is going to be like last Friday's experience on the same flight, where most of the upgrades were processed at the very last minute — except last Friday, this flight had a lot more people on it.

I've seen a few cases lately where RM seems to be asleep at the wheel. Maybe they should change the EUA wording in the benefits to something like "Platinums get a generous five day upgrade to first class on routes no one will ever buy a first class ticket such as sbm12's weekend jaunt to POS." :D

Man oh man, i'm feeling old. When I was a kid, I had to use Arcnet. None of this Ethernet crap.

From the bad joke section: "What do you use Ethernet for?"

Answer: "To catch the ether bunny"

But will it do much good with those uber-trendy 70s interiors on some of those planes?

Well, to make matters worse, I need to rebook a CO ticket. Do you think the Elite Desk would ever get such task completed? I'm not very hopeful.

EDITED: HOLY MACRO. Expedia has the A fare available!

What's surprising is that for the last 18 months I've been regularly flying between IAH and ATL on CO, my upgrades almost always cleared five days out. Since January 1 it's been a different story, yet, the number of upgrades versus paid F really hasn't changed. And at the same time, overall loads have declined. It doesn't appear there's any logical reason that they've started holding back the upgrades on that route in the way they've been doing lately.

Never mind. When I attempted to book, expedia says the fare is no longer available.

LOL. Well, fortunately the 737s are just about gone from the fleet. However, that wonderful 70s look still lives on in much of the widebody fleet. I was amazed to see the newer blue seat covers in the photo that accompanies the article. That's the first time I've seen those on a UA 744. And, it looks like those are LCD, not CRT, monitors too.

Anyway, it gives me a slight glimmer of hope that my jaunt to LHR on UA in a couple of weeks in E+ will be slightly less Awesome™.

So many years of flying those filthy and falling-apart aircraft will take years to remedy.

Yep. I love how the article says that it takes five or six heavy cleaning cycles before the grime really comes off.

Why not book it as a series of flights on a multi-segment? That way you can pick and choose the cabin you want for each leg. Or are you trying to get waitlisted for the non-A leg?

Since when are all of the IAH-DFW flights on RJs?!
