I updated that post. The tickets are now showing ticketed and confirmed, so we will be in STR during the times mentioned. ^

OK, I'm sold. Just read the pitch for it and I'm convinced that if I ever start selling photos, I'm going to be a SmugMug Pro guy.

I love SmugMug and may upgrade to the pro account as well. I just need to make time to better sort and edit my collection.

I did not think you drove a car , only fly places and sleep at the IC.

Computer questions. If you think you are about to loose power to a computer not connected to an ups and nothing important running, is it best to ride out the brown outs or quickly kill the power to everything? I only ask because a transformer a few streets away went boom.

Winter of '87 was crazy. We had a recorded low temperature of 9. Snow and ice stayed on the ground for about three days. It was essentially Armageddon in Houston.

1987? I think that was 1983. I remember 1983 being particularly cold, right before Christmas, and lasting about 7-10 days. For the only time anyone knows of, lake in our subdivision completely froze.

We had a similar cold snap in about 1989. No ice or snow with that one, but similarly cold temps. I think it did snow up where I lived (northeast of Houston) later that winter.

The area about 100 miles north/northeast of Houston had snow and/or ice storms almost every winter between around 1978 and 1983. Most of that never got into the Houston Metro, but I remember several snow/ice days when I was in elementary school. After that period, it's only happened about once or twice a decade, with ice storms hitting my hometown in early 1997, and then again around 2002, and then the most recent snow back before Christmas.

That's assuming there's still not Platinums and Golds ahead of you who still haven't been upgraded, plus their companions. Last time I flew EWR-IAH in November I ended up in the high teens on the upgrade standby list, and about 40% of the passengers on the plane were on that list. I was a Platinum on a K fare.

Just about every plane in CO's fleet is an upgrade tease on IAH-EWR. The 777 is the only one I've had great success with — I've never missed a domestic upgrade on that equipment. And I've only missed it once on the 764. But the 762 and anything smaller is tough.

'82 and '83 both had snow and ice, as did '87 (my family home is on the North Side). I distinctly remember traveling with my folks to buy a telescope for Christmas, and seeing all the cars covered in huge icicles. I wasn't old enough to remember the winters of '82 and '83, but there are photos of me in the snow-covered yard. Perhaps I am misremembering '87 as '89, but I definitely recall temps down to 9 or so, and the massive freak-out it caused in Houston.
