My preferred dosage is One Xanax to two Bombay Sapphire & Tonics. It usually does the trick.

That sounds safe enough. :)

After hearing plenty of Ambien gone bad stories, I'm afraid of trying it as well.

Ambien has recreational uses as well. Or so I've been told. ;)

They don't call it prescription LSD for nothing...

I think I'll stick to 2-3 Melatonin pills.

Yup - that usually does it for me. Well, mixed with a few drinks, of course.

That 6 hours (really 4.5-5 hours of sleeping time if you're lucky) across the Atlantic goes way too fast. :(

IAH originating TATL flights offer a respectable amount of sleep-time, especially if you sack-out immediately after takeoff.

That's what I usually do, but take Ambien on the first night of arrival to jolt my body clock to the new time.

I bet. I once found myself looking in to routing a TATL through LAX for the extra sleeping time.

Agreed 1000%.

I used to take something upon boarding a trans-atlantic flight but stopped after the trip when I fell asleep during boarding, and woke up to find everyone getting off the plane. Thinking I was in FRA and had slept through everything I gathered my belongings and started towards what I thought was immigration.

Yadda yadda yadda I remember thinking that we most have come into the elusive "Terminal 3" at FRA because I was very disoriented. I felt like I was walking through a dense fog of confusion.

After trying to speak German to the Mexican at the coffee stand in the terminal and getting a  in reply it dawned on me that I was still at JFK. Apparently our flight went mechanical during taxi.

What a keruffle.

Wow - that's quite the combo. What are the recommended doses, Dr. baglady? Hopefully low considering the possible effects.

I don't take anything going to Europe; it's too short. Going to Asia or Oz; I'll do 1/2 Xanax and whatever I'm drinking (which is usually champagne and a glass of port; if it's good port, I'll have a second glass ) and that's enough to get me to sleep. I don't do ambien except upon arrival to get to sleep first night and first night home and I haven't even been doing that lately. BTW, my dr. knows I do this. I recommend trying anything at home first - trying it on the airplane first can lead to bad, bad things ;)

I was surprised how much sleep I was able to get on HNL-IAH... Enough to function at work.

That's hilarious. I found that Tylenol P.M. works for me. (Though it does dehydrate me a bit)
