Applied and approved for AA personal MC today using link 3 in WIKI.
Confirming I did not need 18 months from elite approval.
Confirmed 50,000 miles with CSR.
Welcome to FT!

Good info, thanks!

I just got the mailers for my 50K Personal card and my wife's. Both state $2K spend 50K miles. We both applied 1/18/15 using Link 3, 18 months since last personal cards open, closed Personal Visa w/i last 12 months, and I closed a Gold MC in last 12 months.

Hello,

Wanted to give everyone a datapoint:

DW applied for a Business card using the 2nd bullet point link under link 1. She got "Application Received" and later checked the status online which indicated declined. She just called in today and spoke to with a senior account specialist. He apparently wouldn't budge and said that she has had a card within the last 18 months. Ah well. Perhaps we should have tried the "With Churning" link instead. Might try that after another 60 days.

Now, I have a Platinum Select Visa opened on 07/16/2013 and closed in 08/05/2014. Debating if I should try applying using link 3 and hope that my result is like IkeEsq and not like Happy's!

Unlike the T/C for the prior links with a $2K min spnd, where the landing page and the app page have different language, for this set of links with a $3K min spnd the landing page and the app page say the same exact thing: "bonus miles are not available if you have had a Citi® / AAdvantage® Platinum Select® MasterCard® opened or closed in the past 18 months." The landing page in the wiki, the app that is linked on that landing page, and the direct app in the wiki, all 3 specifically say "MasterCard".
Brugge,

I took a closer look at two of the links and here's what they state:
"*50,000 American Airlines AAdvantage® bonus miles can be earned by new Citi® / AAdvantage® Platinum Select® MasterCard® cardmembers approved through this offer. Earn 50,000 American Airlines AAdvantage® bonus miles after making $2,000 in purchases within the first 3 months of account opening. American Airlines AAdvantage® bonus miles are not available if you have had a Citi® / AAdvantage® Platinum Select® Card opened or closed in the past 18 months."

This language is in link 3 and in link 4. Link 5 now redirects to the citi.com offers, so this appears to indicate that account closure within the last 18 months does matter regardless of whether it is a Visa/MC (notwithstanding IkeEsq's data points of course).

thanks for the data point. Can you talk more about your DW's card history. Dwhen you say that "she has had a card within the last 18 months" are you referring to citibusiness or personal card?

I understand that "World Elite" is a Mastercard designation (similar to Visa "Signature"), and has nothing to do with AA Executive (which is a Citi product)

My question is, how do I get my Plat AA World MC turned into a Plat AA World Elite MC? Is this just something that might happen if I get lucky? It is based on how much I use the card?

So does this new info mean that Exec approvals 1Q2014 will not prevent you from being approved for an AA personal Platinum card? I have an AA Plat opened July 2013 (still open) and closed another AA Plat Oct 2013.

Depends which link you use. Read the terms of the application that you want to use.

I am in a similar boat here. Except I closed my AA Plat Visa last month (opened it in 12/2012). I am doing an AOR tomorrow, so I will use link 3 and update everyone as to whether or not my AA Visa closing date was an issue. If IkeEsq earlier post holds true, then the closing date should not be a problem.

MC. Sorry, I didn't think they were issuing Visas in 2014, but I may be mis-remembering.

I haven't been able to verify one way or the other. I was hoping the mailer would indicate it, but it doesn't. For those who have recently gotten the business card, did the mailer that the card came in indicate the bonus anywhere at all?

I kind of miss the days where this wasn't a possibility (if you didn't qualify, Citi just denied your app).

huge thank you to all who shared datapoints on successful aa mastercard approvals with the new mastercard specific exclusion. family member who currently has no AA card and has never had an AA mastercard was just instantly approved for a mastercard using the 3rd link. as a datapoint he previously had an AA amex, visa, and mc gold (last one obtained in 5/2013) and has received several targeted citi mc applications (old links) but had been denied twice late last year for being a previous card holder. thanks again to everyone who has contributed datapoints to this thread!!

At the end of December I was approved for a Plat and targeted 60k Gold, and today just received a targeted 50k Gold offer. I know that targeted offers at least circumvent core app rules and existing cardmember rules set by other cards (since I was able to get approved for the targeted 50k Gold the day after getting approved for the public Plat)... However I have no idea if targeted offers are able to circumvent rules set by identical cards - or in my case an identical card that was a targeted offer.

Thoughts?

Yes, the targeted offer does circumvent the rules. But only assuming you haven't applied for that same card since Citi sent the targeted offer ( which might have had some lag time involved). It's that "lag time" that is in question here.

weird thing

Weirdest thing happened today. I got in the mail an unsolicited Citibusiness Aadvantage Select VISA card.

I called Citi and said I hadn't applied for a card, and I didn't know they offered Visa cards anyway. She said it was actually a replacement for a card I originally received 2 years ago whose validity is now expiring. "But I cancelled it a long time ago!" "Yes, but apparently the billing account was closed while the card account was left open."

Apparently I was never billed for the annual fee in the 2nd year, since the billing account was closed.

Anyway, it all got fixed, but this two accounts for one card (both with 16-digit numbers) stuff is exceedingly weird and leads to all kinds of confusion.
