If you feel your account has been unfairly closed, consider filing a complaint with the Consumer Protection Financial Bureau:

CFPB's complaint form: http://www.consumerfinance.gov/complaint/

When someone reports an account closure here, a lot of the same questions get asked. It might be useful to answer some questions in advance. This could help figure out what happened or how to proceed:
  1. Did you transfer UR points to someone with a different address? Different last name?
  2. Did you sell UR points to someone?
  3. Approximately what percentage of your charges earned less than 5x points in the past 12 months?
  4. Did a Chase or non-Chase bank recently close one of your credit cards?
  5. Are you using up a large percentage of your credit line on all Chase and non-Chase credit cards?
  6. Is your total credit line with Chase much higher than with other banks?
  7. Did you apply for many credit cards or other forms of credit in the past 2 months? ("Many" may be hard to define.)
  8. If you have a Chase checking account how much did you typically deposit in money orders per month, if any?
  9. Did you recently start spending a lot more with Chase than in typical months?
  10. Is your monthly balance frequently close to your credit limit?
  11. Approximately what percentage of spending was on gift cards this year?
  12. How much of your bill do you typically pay using WM or KMart bill payment if any?
  13. Do you have a Chase mortgage or other account that might be profitable to Chase?
  14. Has your credit score or credit profile changed recently? As in: significantly more debt, more open credit lines, or a large drop in your credit score?

Thanks, guv1976, that's good information to know. Given the small amount of money, circuit court wouldn't be justified, why bother listen to go to circuit court instead of focus more on MS to bring it to a different level? I am blessed to have earned millions of miles for first/business ticket to see the world which I would never do it if I have to spend my own money. There are banks(or judges or other people dislike your MS), but there are banks don't bother you do so (citi approved me 2nd executive card and give me more credit line than before regardless my large spending and never questioned what are my purchases for). If one bank close you out, move on to another bank. You bring them business (I am just wondering who is losing money in our MS hobby, banks get fee, we get our points).

Really? Someone has to pay. The merchant is eating swipe fees. The brand behind the card is paying (100k aa miles doesn't cost AA $250). When you load your buxx it costs them more in swipe fees than they charge. Someone is losing in the game and they'll shut you down if you bleed them too much.

The swipe fees are likely about even with the fees charged for the gc's, we'll call it a wash. AA has already sold those miles to Citi, so they made money selling those miles upfront (besides this is a Chase thread). Never used Buxx, so no comment there. Many have bled and bled with no ill effects...not saying it cannot happen, but it is not inevitable.

Chase does not earn 5% per swipe for your ink purchase at a office supply store let alone 7x through the portal. They get pissed. They terminate the relationship. That simple

Letter I got in the mail. So maybe I was closed for being a credit risk and not rewards/MS?

I had 3 inquiries on EX this month, 8 total in the last year. 3 more from > 1 year ago. I felt like these were all reasonable spaced out over intervals, but apparently not.

Current loan amount on all open accounts:
Do you have any big loan amounts such as: home loan, auto loan, student loan? if there is balance on credit cards, will it be considered a loan?

Too many requests for credit or reviews of credit:
Do Chase mean "hard pulls" on your credit report?

For Current Loan Amount on all Open Accounts: I wonder if that includes balances on CC accounts. If so, that could be MS.

That language is so vague, though, it could mean a lot of things. I also wonder if the official reason is always the real reason. If they are really closing accounts for MS, "manufactured spending" would not be the official reason in a legal document.

brc01, thank you for posting the AA letter. Two things:

1) Are you carrying balances on credit cards? Paying off the balance by the due date is too late. You have to zero out the credit card account prior to the statement being cut. The general rule is that all accounts but one should have a zero balance. The one account doesn't need a big balance showing.

2) It seems like the credit card issuers are giving points even after the account is closed. I got miles on a Citi AA Exec card that I closed prior to the statement being cut.

I would never close a card before all miles have posted...I would say you got lucky and would not advise anyone to follow that advice.

A broken window also isn't money. You are suing for money to recover your loss, how is confiscating my points different than breaking my window (in the context of the argument at hand)?

It was 1500 AA miles (not the 110K signup bonus) and I was at risk of losing the $450 annual fee refund to hold onto 1500 miles which is only worth $20.

Of course I would not cancel prior to the 110K showing up even with this experience.

Analogies don't work. And there's a reason.

While every state has different rules, SCC generally speaking handles monetary disputes only. OP wants his points restored. That's called equity and it is rarely handled by SCC.

Unfortunately for OP, he's learned the hard way that a lot of the advice on FT is just plain wrong. Either he figures out how to sue in his circuit court or hires a lawyer to do that. Or, it's over and done with. The latter more likely.

What a nonsense!
called and spoke to manager today and that agent told me she would pull the call record and get back to me.
wrong thread??
