If you feel your account has been unfairly closed, consider filing a complaint with the Consumer Protection Financial Bureau:

CFPB's complaint form: http://www.consumerfinance.gov/complaint/

When someone reports an account closure here, a lot of the same questions get asked. It might be useful to answer some questions in advance. This could help figure out what happened or how to proceed:
  1. Did you transfer UR points to someone with a different address? Different last name?
  2. Did you sell UR points to someone?
  3. Approximately what percentage of your charges earned less than 5x points in the past 12 months?
  4. Did a Chase or non-Chase bank recently close one of your credit cards?
  5. Are you using up a large percentage of your credit line on all Chase and non-Chase credit cards?
  6. Is your total credit line with Chase much higher than with other banks?
  7. Did you apply for many credit cards or other forms of credit in the past 2 months? ("Many" may be hard to define.)
  8. If you have a Chase checking account how much did you typically deposit in money orders per month, if any?
  9. Did you recently start spending a lot more with Chase than in typical months?
  10. Is your monthly balance frequently close to your credit limit?
  11. Approximately what percentage of spending was on gift cards this year?
  12. How much of your bill do you typically pay using WM or KMart bill payment if any?
  13. Do you have a Chase mortgage or other account that might be profitable to Chase?
  14. Has your credit score or credit profile changed recently? As in: significantly more debt, more open credit lines, or a large drop in your credit score?

I think I responded to everyone who has pmd me. Again I apologize for not posting my story publicly but I did it all for your benefit so more people can try and get their points back. So far it sounds like there had been a high success rate using this back door plan. Can't guarantee it will work for everyone but it has definitely worked for several.

Sure. You get a soft pull when opening up almost any checking account. It wouldn't be a stretch to imagine Chase doing so after irregular activity.

I hadn't realized how prevalent the shutdowns have been until I found the Dans Deals thread. It seems like things started around September of last year and they haven't really abated yet. Maybe we will get lucky and Chase will eventually stop, like Citi did after they shutdown a bunch of people with the Citi TYP card initially.

I think Chase, for whatever reason, has decided that they do not like the types of activity that people like us do (credit card churning and manufactured spending). It also seems like most of the people who have been shutdown also had a Chase Ink card. Maybe having a Chase checking account increases your risk of a shutdown, but the other factors are probably the underlying reasons.

HELP!
ugh... another one... um... did you violate their policy? if so, you're likely out of luck... if you did not then you should definitely push the issue with them. good luck!

A little bit late in making such comment... You realize you are quoting the starting post of this thread written in Dec 2013? and the thread has had 240+ post and 4 months after that already...

There is a very simple solution, stop clicking on the thread. Playing by the rules is not that much fun anyway, breaking the rules and getting away with it is where its all at

talked to a lawyer regarding this. What chase is basically doing per his opinion, is trying to see what they can get away with. Most people that were closed had high UR balances.

So they close peoples accounts. Not everyone will go after them, so its all a numbers game. They lessen their liability on UR points and profit. Since not all customers will go after them...

Bad Chase.

I would like more input from you how this might be, I am under the impression that many* banks like to have a lot of their products for a single individual (building client relations), i.e. using their bill pay, checking account, savings, cc, etc...

*all.

Your lawyer doesn't know any more than the anonymous posters on this forum do. Actually, he probably knows less.

They do, but having a banking account also opens you to additional regulatory scrutiny.

The biggest fear Chase has is regulators and not your UR balance. Banking is facing more and more regulations ans scrutiny. Regulators are on site often. Also, the flow of CC to BB to your checking account back to the CC to pay the balance gets too close to money laundering for their comfort.

IMO, the profit aspect of this is non existent.

So then when they shut you down, why do they take away your points?
