I love those speculation threads. It is sufficient for one poster to throw an idea in the ring and lots of fighters come out.
The CX SL (like often OWBronze for other airlines) is a great way to enforce loyalty for not-so-frequent flyers.
Removing lounge access on CX flights for SL would be a bad move. But I am not an expert, nor have any connection to CX management. Just common sense.

Like you I'm an SL, and I have a decent chance of making it to GO before my renewal. If they remove lounge access for SL's and make it harder to attain GO (hoping none of this happens), I don't see myself flying on CX metal for the forseeable future as there is no reason to pay the pricey fares and get less benefits in return. I would argue that CX SL is already the hardest Oneworld Ruby status to earn, and reducing any benefit for that matter would be disappointing.

CX might dangle even more companion lounge passes as a shiny "enhancement" while also killing unlimited solo visits.
Unfortunately I'm quite certain CX will be consolidating benefits amongst its highest spenders. This is sadly the price of inequality and economic conditions nowadays.

I thought it was over $1m HKD... I recall at one point they said it had to be 11-12 times roundtrip J class to HKG-JFK in a year to get DMP.. if only 500k, I would have been DMP for years already.. lol...

New SL speculation based on nothing:
1) Business Class Check in (comply with OW Ruby benefits)
2) PEY priority boarding - Group 3 (already happened)
3) Lounge access only for CX operated lounges OR fixed amount of lounge passes allotted per year to be used in CX operated / partner lounges
4) Removal of priority baggage handling
Does it entice you to chase for GO now?

I know I am in the minority but I don't see whats the big deal with priority boarding and more importantly, priority boarding doesn't cost CX anything so I am not sure why they are stingy and downgrading that. Or has SL always been PEY priority boarding?

i think they want to make the difference more clear between GO/SL , and also nowadays they give out SL more easily than before.

priority boarding is good if you travel in PEY/Y to secure overhead storage. If travelling in J it ain't gonna matter. I never checked in any luggage unless it's family leisure travel in which case we have time on our side so priority handling isn't an issue.
out of the useless so called 'priority' i would say
priority boarding >> priority check in >> priority baggage handling is the order of benefit i consider.

Problem is real J pax and GO complain that the blue queue is longer than normal EY queue.
