I can imagine CX IT and staff explode on 1/1/2026 when a million retro claims are submitted at once.

After reading all the expert replies, here're my assumptions, please correct me if I'm wrong.
I'm currently a QR plat looking to change to CXDM,
With 235 Status Points in the pocket as Green.
From next Monday until end of Dec, I've the following OW flights:
Oct -
MH: HKG > KUL > SYD | 85pts
MH: MEL > KUL > HKG | 85pts
CX: XMN > HKG > SIN | 65pts
CX: SIN > HKG > TPE | 65pts
CX: HKG > SHA > HKG | 40pts
Based on what I understand from the changes, I should:
1. Collect the 65pts on my XMN flight immediately and make myself Silver by end of this yr.
2. Retro claim everything else next year so that it stays within 2026.
But I have a silly question. When I get to Gold (600pts) next yr, would CX still reset my status points to 0? Where I'll need another 1200 to qualify?

Not sure what do you mean by "another 1200"

Got to Gold > reset to 0 > get another 600 by Dec 31 > DM on Jan 1 2027 (but not immediately in 2026 Upon achieving that)?
This point system is just incredibly confusing.

Yes from what I understand, your SP will reset to 0 upon upgrade to Gold. The new progression will only be in force from 2027.
