Upcoming Changes to MPC

Heard about rumors that there will be some changes to the program and noticed an interesting thing today on their inflight magazine. Anyone could double confirm they never publicly mentioned this “Diamond Plus” elite on this page before?

(Checked records on PressReader, they started mentioning it in the Jan 2025 edition)

Since I’m only GO, I didn’t receive any survey. Dear DMs, any thoughts?

They will be, just unconfirmed.

If you did the recent survey you’ll get the idea where the programme is heading. :)

Haven't read up on the enhancements. Any insights or anything that catches your attention?

Disclaimer: I did the survey and am bound by the confidentiality agreement. I will be very cryptic about it.

First, if you aren’t flying 1200+ SP a year, most of the rumoured changes does not affect you.

Second, if you only buy the cheapest economy ticket, the proposed change would strongly affect you.

Third, if you buy premium cabins, your life might be easier.

Have fun :)

Sounds like a lot of our fellow BAEC members who recently migrated to CX MPC will be greatly disappointed..!

But this is the way the world is going.

Oh that survey haha now I remember 🤣

I have no confidentiality agreement. What I got asked was questions about how to bank extra status points (past 1,200 SP, my entire battery of questions were about how to do things beyond 1,200 level Diamond). So for example, can surplus SP in one year be carried forward. And other things about what do I like or dislike about the way the points system works over 1,200.

Overall I thought the questions were on the money since they're issues I care about.

Golds were sent surveys as well. If you didn't receive it, double-check your communication preferences. By the way, everyone had a slightly different survey. E.g., 600/1200/1800. Once you piece different versions together you can sense what the proposed changes are trying to achieve. It follows the general direction of cash is king, albeit a bit more subtle than BA.

Outside of the realm of surveys, there was always one major difference between CX and BA's structure. There were talks about making the programme more friendly, including removing the reset when you move up a tier.

The heavily affected group would be the "economy diamonds". The global environment of FFPs, aside from RJ, is becoming more hostile to them. I disagree with that concept and think they are the most loyal group of members you can find. Yes, one DMP brings in more revenue than 5-6 EY DMs, but the EY DMs are the ones who keep paying premium fares to sit in 39A for hundreds of hours per year. They need that massage slot at the Pier more than I do.

It's actually realistic to earn DM flying mostly economy? I thought it was kinda a given you had to be basically flying vast majority J, or else a painful amount of PEY.

Oh yes my one was about whether to lower Asia econ points and increase inter Asia J points

I knew one friend from Taipei that works in Shenzhen heads back to Taipei every weekend in Y

He is the only mad man I know haha (I m sure he must have had some J legs here and there )

It was realistic pre-2016. There still are EY DMs but they fly long-haul Y as well. It is honestly very impressive because even for PEY you'd have to do 8-10 long-hauls. That is why I think it is not wise to drive this group of customers away.

Perhaps the changes are to combat the increased number of DMs. There are more than 40K of us now.
