Same here. Intra Asia I mostly fly in Econ-Lite, but sometimes also in J if there’s a good deal. Almost all the long-hual are redemption U. I can just meet the 600 requirement flying this pattern as a leisure-only traveler. The reason I like CX GO is the magical op-up sometimes. But if they reduce SPs for EconLight, I will probably use my JGC Green (ow sa) instead. LOL.

Sounds like a lot of our fellow BAEC members who recently migrated to CX MPC will be greatly disappointed..!
But this is the way the world is going. Be interesting how it impacts this low$/but 16-1800 CP DM! |

Memory’s foggy, but hadn’t the last round of changes been worked on, by the same external agency that had done BA’s earlier revamp (iirc agencyguy had engaged this board).

depending on the thresholds- I could live with that- Bookable upgrades are valuable- but, not easy to use and I’m typically in cheap (RTW/ex-cheap outport) J most of the time..F is scant/and R->J requires a lot of planning!
Dug up the survey email- but..‘survey closed’.. But I do agree the 1600 coupons are useless. I have no motivation to hit 1600. The I to F is effectively gone with only 3 destinations getting F, two of whom I don't fly to from HKG. I'd rather do a cheap Outport E fare than pay extra to buy R. |

- Increase in SP for "premium cabins" (whatever that means)
- Increase in SP for long intra-Asia flights. (CGK/DPS/CTS/HND etc) - Removal of SP resets when reaching a new tier. Potentially you can reach DM from scratch with only 1200 In 2018 they matched me to CX Silver (should been Gold but better than nothing), last year they refused to match, so sticking with BAEC for now ..: |

I cannot recall there was a confidentiality agreement within the survey I received. Mine was about whether it is appealing to have a newly introduced Diamond-plus membership as the next milestone to replace the mid-tier benefits like free upgrade, complimentary gold membership. The Diamond-plus membership may include things like relationship manager, access to private clubs etc.
Btw, sometimes Cathay's research agencies will, based on the surveyed submissions, invite some respondents to focus groups for more in-depth probing. Has anyone been invited to one of their focus groups before? |
The survey I got was a "hypothetical" removal of long-haul bookable upgrades (at 1600 SPs) to be replaced by short-haul bookable upgrades (at 1000 SPs).
I replied NO as I WAS able to use the long-haul BUs last year to/from CDG and LHR. One BU left, which I hope to use soon. Found it easy to use, as long as I plan early. In my case, flight date was 6 months ahead, upgrade confirmation was within 24 hours. Would be sad if this were eliminated. I was motivated to take two extra regional trips in J (purely mileage runs) to get to 1600 SPs. Good value I figured. I spent an extra US$2K, for the "free" J to F long-haul upgrade (x 4 sectors). YMMV. |

Anyways, since the cat is out of the bag, I'll list out a few potential changes based on multiple versions I've seen: - Reduction of SPs for Economy Light. - Increase in SP for "premium cabins" (whatever that means) - Increase in SP for long intra-Asia flights. (CGK/DPS/CTS/HND etc) - Removal of SP resets when reaching a new tier. Potentially you can reach DM from scratch with only 1200 - Removal of the midtier 1400/1600/1800 benefits in exchange for a rollover to next year (This is head-scratching, there's an informal mechanism in place already) By the way, when will the 200 AM credit? Not that I need it. ;) #5 or even give up mid-tier for DM+ is not appealing to me. BUDs although difficult to use at least is some tangible benefits, better than a higher tier which only provides something I don't need (RM/private clubs). |

The issue is that we can retroclaim anyways. The formalisation of the mechanism shouldn't come at the expense of the pitiful amount of additional benefits.

I will be very curious about SP of Economy Flex tickets. These tickets aren’t a lot more expensive in intraasia flights, but earn quite a bit of SP (maybe 3 times of lite). I hope this won’t be cut as I’m shifting from BAEC to MPC, and a lot more short haul Y flights on flexible tickets.

#4 is puzzling. They thought there are too many DM but want to make it easier to become one? It's quite a huge slash from 2100 now to 1200!
p.s. CX denied my status match request from BAEC OWS to CX silver earlier this week, as I will be relocating to Shanghai and requires travelling back to HK every week. |
"Some" airlines seem to forget the whole purpose of their loyalty program: To reduce price competition and let people book flights which are more expensive on their metal than on metal of the competition. That people are prepared to pay more for a seat/experience because of the goodies they additionally get. Reduce those goodies and people will consider the competition and the airline will lose out on bookings. With the consequence that people who book later can get better pricing (because the cheaper booking classes are still (need to be) available and you lose out on the extra money you could make on the more expensive booking classes, etc. This is a self-reinforcing effect
Make the goodies reduction to big and people give you the middle finger for the loyalty goodies at all and become free agents, which in turn does move the flight/airline selection to a price competition, which you desperately try to avoid with your loyalty program. Airlines also seem to forget that once they "grow", the number of flights grow, the number of destinations grow, and the more attractive that the airline becomes for frequent flyers. So, I'd dare to say, if an airline doubles the amount of flights, the flying by frequent flyers will increase more than that, maybe even significantly more. So, when your flights double, take care to be able to honor/handle 3 times the amount of goodie requests, IE, increase your lounge capacity more than proportionate....... |
