Thank you for the clarification. In other words, sale fares are not upgradable from the Y cabin. Whereas my pretty good sale fares in WT+ are upgradable. If that's the case, then I understand the distinction.

Thanks for the clarification. I didnt realise this or I would have tried to book in another fare class.

It appears I am booked in selling class N.

I am in WT+ for the return. That also doesnt appear to be upgradeable but I did not ask about that when on the phone. (That is selling class T)

T class WT+ fares definitely ought to be upgradable with Avios, subject to appropriate availability (check for J redemption seats).

Correct, any WT+ fare is normally upgradeable to CW but it is possible that there is no redemption availability. You could try to make a CW straight redemption booking with Avios for that flight and see if there are any seats.

If it was during a sale, you might well have found that T class (WT+) was cheaper than the cheapest upgradeable economy class (H).

Just browsing through ba.com and see SFO and SEA is approx £2100 from 10th Aug to beg September ex-LHR.

Reasonable prices considering the dates?

£3,000+ for a 'sale' to CPT in the SA winter looks expensive.

I've cut out the ones that I don't think are 'sale' fares (eg CPT), but more may be loaded as the day goes on, of course. Nothing in Y, W, or F that I can see.

The CPT fare is definitely a sale fare - it looks like it has the same travel and ticket by dates as JNB.

I can see a HKG sale fare as well, although that is travel by 7 September.

Yes, it looks as though there's a £2001 HKG fare now loaded (although the Low Fare Finder hasn't quite caught up yet).

I just did a quick whizz through the list to weed out any not-particularly-special fares, rather than doing a Ts&Cs search, hence CPT being ignored!

I agree: there's nothing much special about that CPT fare, although it looks like it's about £500 off the next I class fare - so if it might benefit someone, it might be worth knowing that this fare will also turn into a pumpkin in a couple of weeks' time.

You're right: it's probably another one that I should have weeded out for also being a bit marginal.

Of course there's often a certain amount of fare 'bleed' into and out of Sale periods too, reflecting the loads and yields on specific routes - as well as matching bits of competitor activity.
