Tesco and Avios
Tesco, the major UK supermarket chain, allows you to convert Tesco Clubcard (CC) points to Avios. The standard earning rate is 1 CC point per £1 spent in store. They convert to Avios in the ratio of 1 CC point to 2.4 Avios or 2.5 Virgin miles. Every quarter, your points are converted to coupons and mailed to you - they can then be converted via the CC website to Avios or Virgin miles. Typically, it takes 1-2 working days for a conversion to BA Avios to complete.

The key to rapidly earning large amounts of Avios is the regular bonus point offers where large amounts of points can be earned. The latest are listed below and discussed within this thread.

The last period for collecting Clubcard points finished on 16 October 2014.

The last day for collecting points in the current quarter is 21 January 2015
.

Topcashback (TCB)

Uniquely amongst such sites, TCB allows up to £50 of cashback per year to be withdrawn to your Tesco Clubcard account, which could then be transferred to 12,000 Avios. As of the middle of May, most cashback can also be transferred directly to your Avios account 1p=1 Avios. http://www.topcashback.co.uk/

So I'm new to the whole clubcard collecting and all that. My mother doesn't use her clubcard vouchers and I just found £68 (£16+£25+£27) worth in the post. Can I use these for avios? In total she's got a good £250 worth of valid vouchers. I've never cared about it but I've just check my BAEC account and found that I have 40K and I could get a J/F return if I keep mounting this up.

Yes, create a BAEC account for her, transfer from CC and create a Household Account.

This 3V shortage is ridiculous. I'm in at least one Tesco every day trying to find some. When do they re-stock these usually?

I've never seen a 3V in my local Tesco, but I have been buying a bunch of Visa debit gift cards (available in £25/£50 denominations) from there. I'm assuming they're a similar sort of thing?

I have full shelves of 3V cards in one of my local Tesco Extra stores - I just haven't found a decent route to rinse them...

Yes, but they have a fee. Can be still worthwhile if you have a helping hand voucher to cover the fee.

Ah, yes. £3.95 charge for £50, but I've been managing to use £4 off for £50+ spend with them so the £50 card is only costing me £49.95, plus bonus avios for £50 gift card and usual avios for paying by BA amex card

I believe they should be restocked at least Monday and Friday - IIRC they are done by a separate (but still Tesco-owned) company, and their staff hours depend on the size of the store. Surrey Quays seems to be the best in London if that's where you're looking, at least in my experience. Otherwise, just keep looking.

Slightly OT: Which (larger) Tesco is better to stock up groceries before taking the Tube to T5? Hammersmith, Feltham or even another one?

285 Bus runs close to Feltham Tesco, past another Tesco extra (which is usually full of airport staff!) to Heathrow Central Bus. Better than any Tube accessible option I think.

When buying gift cards for the 150 bonus, does it have to be separate transactions of £50? Or if I buy £150 in one transaction, will I get 450 points?

Thanks.

I went on a gift card buying frenzy yesterday. Not quite sure how many I ended up with, but the Amex Gold sign-up bonus is now in the bag.

I've had the card since Tuesday, somewhat amazed I didn't get a call from the Amex fraud team, tbh.

Hi, did you have to do multiple £50 transactions to get the 150 points each time? Thanks.

No, you do not need to do separate transactions. You will get a multiple of the 150 points for each multiple of £50 spent on the branded cards..

I was splitting the transactions, a) because some stores have told their staff that "lots of gift cards = bad", and b) for the fuel saver thing.
