Tesco and Avios
Tesco, the major UK supermarket chain, allows you to convert Tesco Clubcard (CC) points to Avios. The standard earning rate is 1 CC point per £1 spent in store. They convert to Avios in the ratio of 1 CC point to 2.4 Avios or 2.5 Virgin miles. Every quarter, your points are converted to coupons and mailed to you - they can then be converted via the CC website to Avios or Virgin miles. Typically, it takes 1-2 working days for a conversion to BA Avios to complete.

The key to rapidly earning large amounts of Avios is the regular bonus point offers where large amounts of points can be earned. The latest are listed below and discussed within this thread.

The last period for collecting Clubcard points finished on 16 October 2014.

The last day for collecting points in the current quarter is 21 January 2015
.

Topcashback (TCB)
A cashback generating site, that provides cashback if you go to a wide range of online retailers via their links. Uniquely amongst such sites, TCB allows up to £50 of cashback per year to be withdrawn to your Tesco Clubcard account, which could then be transferred to 12,000 Avios. As of the middle of May, most cashback can also be transferred directly to your Avios account 1p=1 Avios. http://www.topcashback.co.uk/

Apols if this has been covered before.

Got £60 of Pizza express vouchers tonight given I eat there once a week. Didn't get the 150 club card points but the lady had to scan the 3rd one after she was suggesting I pay - but it was all added up ok.

I checked with customer services and the lady said "the promotion is over" but I am not sure she knew what I was talking about.

I did however, notice that the amount was very low (despite using HH and a "save 4.98 on your next shop") so checked receipt again and noticed that I got "20% off gift cards". Is this new? Has it replaced the 150 CC? what are the T&Cs? This could be a nice little discount especially on 3Vs etc.

Didn't the 20% discount get you to £48? i.e. below the £50 trigger for 150 CC bonus?

That would be too good to be true, hence it can't be. If they offer 20% off on Visa or 3V there are people on this board who'll completely break tesco eventually

Maybe off proper gift cards it could work, theres not many people who would buy big amounts to sit on, and you'd be hard pressed to beat 20% reselling on ebay after fees etc.

They've had 20% off selected branded gift cards several times in the past (as you say, obviously never Visa though!). When I was in Tesco last week there was a sign saying 20% off iTunes gift cards, maybe there is a bigger promotion on that they just haven't advertised properly?

So what is the deal? They worked on Pizza Express which is still pretty good as a discount!

There are definitely regular 10% or 20% off offers, mostly on iTunes or Google Play. I've never seen one for 3V or the fee paying Visas. It is however always just that one type of card.

They sometimes have the 20% off certain gift cards, like around Mothers Day they generally have 20% off the likes of H&M, New Look, Accessorize etc.

Helping Hand...

It says on the Helping Hand Coupon that Gift Cards are excluded. This means Tesco branded cards are excluded, but not branded/3V cards, right?

They're all excluded. That shouldn't stop you from trying (and pleading ignorance should anyone point out the error of your ways) - but it is clearly not in Tesco's interest to give big cash discounts on all gift cards.

Thanks. So if excluded the best thing would be to buy £50 of (say) 3V to get the 150 club card points, then an effective £5 of "free" groceries using the HH?

Yes, or you can try using them to just purchase gift cards or put one or more grocery items in your basket with the gift vouchers and hope they slip through. Its all down to the staff member at the time.

The 20% discount offer last November was on Arcadia Cards, Pizza Express, Accessorize, Itunes and (I think) BHS and Spafinder.
