Tesco and Avios
Tesco, the major UK supermarket chain, allows you to convert Tesco Clubcard (CC) points to Avios. The standard earning rate is 1 CC point per £1 spent in store. They convert to Avios in the ratio of 1 CC point to 2.4 Avios or 2.5 Virgin miles. Every quarter, your points are converted to coupons and mailed to you - they can then be converted via the CC website to Avios or Virgin miles. Typically, it takes 1-2 working days for a conversion to BA Avios to complete.

The key to rapidly earning large amounts of Avios is the regular bonus point offers where large amounts of points can be earned. The latest are listed below and discussed within this thread.

The last period for collecting Clubcard points finished on 16 October 2014.

The last day for collecting points in the current quarter is 21 January 2015
.

Topcashback (TCB)
A cashback generating site, that provides cashback if you go to a wide range of online retailers via their links. Uniquely amongst such sites, TCB allows up to £50 of cashback per year to be withdrawn to your Tesco Clubcard account, which could then be transferred to 12,000 Avios. As of the middle of May, most cashback can also be transferred directly to your Avios account 1p=1 Avios. http://www.topcashback.co.uk/

Useful to know. Do you know until when there's the discount on PE ones?

And how would I find out the full list?

The offers are on the gift cards for this week and next week. I'll try to find out the proper expiry date.

Wink

Surrey Quays had a few, not many though. I think there were 4 left after I bought mine.

It may be boring to you, but to some of us it is interesting. Just read past the posts that are 3V related.

Tesco and BA - 2014 master thread

Tesco currently doing 25% off 4 or more bottles of wine until 25th November - a good opportunity to stock up for Christmas. Mrs GL2 needs little encouragement; having in the past been told the more you drink, the more you fly.
We reckon with judicious use of offers, double points, eating, drinking etc we've done over 40,000 avios from Tesco in the past 12 months, and that's before counting those from the Amex used at Tesco - all helped to pay for LHR/BOM/DEL in F in Jan 2015!

I checked them out - nothing to do with Tesco except for the marketing, and very much on the wrong side of the price-quality line. It looked like paying through the nose for all the freebies (and aviettes) offered.

Can anyone explain the tradeoff between using my Clubcard vouchers for Avios (at the 2.4 per £ rate) vs. exchanging £5 for £10 in Boost for something I want on Tesco Direct?

Can Boost be a good deal if you're an Avios collector?

It can be, it just depends on the relative value you place on using the avios.

It would also depend on how many Avios you are already have, how many you need, how many you are allowed to buy from BAEC if you don't have enough and how much they cost from BAEC

If you have half a million Avios but also fancy moules frites at Café Rouge then I'd guess the Clubcard Boost is great value

You convert 1 CC point to 2.4 avios.
You convert 1 CC point to 2p of Clubcard boost.

If you value avios at 1p then converting to avios provides 2.4p value compared to 2p value per CC point.
If you value avios at 0.83p then they are equivalent.
If you value avios at below 0.83p then Clubcard boost is better.

Wow, I've just counted up six months worth of vouchers and I have £31. I think I'm missing something or maybe a million things.

I still have until August until the earliest expiry date, should I wait in hopes of getting better than 2.4? I see posts referring to bonuses, but they are mostly older.

TIA

The bonuses seem to be over for good now, but unless you want to spend avios soon you might as well just keep waiting just in case. A better offer on something else might pop up in the meantime as well. I redeemed some for Monarch vouchers last year during an offer which worked out much better value than avios.
