I'm not talking about $200 Airline Fee credit. This is something I could use on AMEX Travel and FHR....

Hilton Surpass (I think--I can't remember the names--it's the one with the $95 fee). Had it for two years, free the first year and paid the fee last January anticipating Hilton stays in 2020 which didn't happen, so I only had one charge on it from this past year.

Called retention, told them I'd just received notice of the annual fee billing and thought I should cancel, since I don't know when I can travel again. Sympathetic agent offered to downgrade to a free card; I told him I didn't want to pay the fee, but I might just apply for that later. No other offers made. Canceled card.

Personal Green Card

Called today 1/19/2021 to cancel. First year anniversary and ~$4K of spend on the card. Explained I already had Gold card and with no travel, it was hard to justify Green card. I was offered 7,500 MR in exchange for keeping the card open for one year which I value as offsetting most of the annual fee, so I kept the card.

Hilton Honors (no annual fee) - Asked to cancel on chat and was offered 10k points.

I was surprised to get a retention offer on a no fee card.

Geez, Amex must not like me. Everybody else got some kind of offer for their Hilton cards.

Amex Green January 2021 Retention

Seems like the standard offer they are giving out on these Green card retention is $50 after $1k spend or 7,500 MR without any spend requirement. I do not consider 7,500 MR to be worth the $1,500 annual fee and have no use for the Uber Eats pass, so I cancelled.

Amex Business Platinum - $25k spend in the last year, first AF. No retention offer. Agent cited $200 appreciate credit that was posted end of last year. Did not accept offer to downgrade. Card closed.

Amex Business Blue - per info in this thread I asked for retention offer. $100 credit offered up front, additional $200 for $4k spend in the next 3 months. Offer accepted and kept card opened (wasn't going to close this card anyway).

Amex Bonvoy Brilliant - no offer. Agent cited retention offer given last year. I will wait for AF to post and call at the end of the 30 day window. I think that will get us barely to the 13th month since the last retention was accepted. Will probably close if there is still no offer.

So far I am 0 for 2 on retention this year. First was the Gold card, no offer, cancelled. Then the Hilton Aspire, no offer, cancelled. Next will be Delta Reserve next month. I spend about $30K on all of my Amex cards combined, have been an Amex customer for 35 years. They probably figure I won't cancel after all this time - they are wrong.
