This thread is a continuation of: Churning Amex in Canada (2015)

Referrals and self-referrals are an important part of churning Canadian-issued American Express cards. It is appropriate to discuss how the referral process works in this thread. However, please do not offer or request referrals here.

Use only this thread, and do read the Wikipost carefully before posting:

Referral Offers (post only in this thread, no referral links, read Wiki post first).

JerryHung: I figure I'll include all CURRENT AMEX Canada offers here (no referral links) for anyone curious about what the bonus and fees are

Yes, I just referred my husband for personal gold and got a 25K referral bonus on my business platinum.

extremely unlikely given that you got all the benefits of signing up. you can call and ask but I wouldn't push it. Don't wanna ruin the game.

They might, but I doubt it. Why wouldn't you keep it for the higher referrals? Biz Plat gets 25k/referral vs. 15k/referral for personal plat.

Datapoint

Applied for The Platinum Card via referral (spouse) on June 28. Just crossed $1000 spend on that one and unfortunately, no signup bonus when the transaction that made me go over posted. First time Platinum cardholder, got my bonus points right away one the Gold. I'll wait to contact them, but the 8-week countdown has started.

You should be fine. Here's my data point. I applied for the Platinum Card for the first time around June 23rd via referral. Crossed the $1000 spend on July 9th but didn't receive the points right away. Just checked again now and the points are there - received at some point in the past few days. So it took me around 6ish weeks to receive the points.

I admit that I am just too lazy to research myself as I know someone here will provide me the answer very quickly

Thanks in advance.
Just thought to provide datapoint to those who want to know. So, I did end up pull the trigger and apply the Biz Plat via self-referral off my Biz Gold before end of June for the 75K sign-up bonus. I got my 10K referral (as expected) the day after the card approve. After I got the Biz Plat card, activate it, and both cards are on the same "MR" account, and hence I contact AMEX (via SM) to cancel my Biz Gold. Once I spend the $5000, I did got the 75K (35K and 40K) on the transaction that meant the spending limit. So, my concern about the "1 Biz card at a time" rule in the T&C did not kick in for me.

Thanks for the update. I was wondering about whether I would get the biz gold sign-up bonus since I already have the biz platinum. Now I feel a bit more comfortable about applying.

Got an idea: Is the clawback of the Platinum Personal $200 annual travel credit less likely if card is downgraded to Gold ?

There are two scenarios: downgrade to Gold and keep it, or downgrade to Gold before Plat annual fee time then cancel

Missing referral bonus for Amex SPG card

I sent a referral to my spouse for the Amex SPG card, which I have. He applied through the link and was approved. In the past I always received my referral bonus emediately after approval, but 3 weeks later still no bonus. I emailed Amex and was told to wait 8-10 weeks after approval to see if points arrive. This is bs! I have to wait for 2 and a half months just to see if there is something wrong? I'm pretty sure the bonus won't generate automatically. Have others had this problem and did you get it resolved?
Cheers,
M
