Flying ILM - CLT - LAX on Tuesday May 16th. Using a companion pass for another as well. Currently PP with 25k LP so far this year. Anticipate to have around 35-40k LPs by the time I make this trip.

Thoughts on my chances of an upgrade on the CLT-LAX leg?? I have gotten it from CLT to PHX before. Tuesday morning is the only reason that I'm semi-optimistic. Also - does having a companion pass with me affect the upgrade list at all? Using the one from the Barclaycard Aviator Red. Also an AAdvantage Citi Premium Select card holder if that matters.

Tuesday morning from CLT-LAX...I wouldn't be holding my breath. We just passed the T-100 mark for this coming Tuesday morning (5/2) and both the 9am and 11:03am are J3. If I had to guess, you'll end up top 8 on a 25 person list.

Good point, I guess it technically was an op-up then, although I could see AA treating it both ways due to the location.

ORD - DCA 4/24 319 - very surprised to clear on a 319 at T-100 on an elite heavy route. 0 cleared at gate.
DCA - ORD 4/27 737 - was #3 out 36 and somehow was the only person who cleared at gate ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Makes sense, that was my thinking as well. Booking code is Q... I'm thinking that has maybe has something to do with the companion pass.

Any idea if they're offering meals in coach? I read that all flights over 2200 miles offer, but this one so far as I can tell is 2,125...

I wish they did treat it as N. America, would be a lot cheaper to reach with award flights!

I flew CLT-ONT on 4/23, and there were meals for sale in coach.

This past Friday 4/28 I was scheduled to fly home via DFW, but wanted to change my routing through PHX due to a weather alert in Dallas. SDC had no options but standby on the app or online, and clicking the "manage trip" option within the weather alert said to call reservations. The seatmap for the ONT-PHX flight I wanted showed main cabin was full, and 2 open seats in F (ERJ). I was just hoping to get on the flight and if I happened to make my way onto the Upgrade list for the short flight to PHX, it would be a bonus. About 3 hours before the flight I called the EXP line, on hold for about 12 min, and was able to make the change. The agent told me it was under airport control so she couldn't assign a seat and I would have to check in at the airport. As soon as I ended the call I received a confirmation email that showed I was booked into first, and I was able to check in online and verify my seat. Not sure if the agent was just wrong or how I managed to go directly into first, but a pleasant surprise.

On my other three legs that week I was painfully short each time... All A320's, I was #2 for 1 seat available, #3 for 2 seats, #1 for 0 seats. That last one was especially painful as the flight was originally scheduled to land at 11:50 pm and ended up landing at 1:30 am. We stood at the gate with a plane ready to go for an hour waiting for the cabin crew to arrive from DFW...

Here's a first - T-100 cleared MIA-DCA. Conversely, SJU-MIA is 100% full even before the T-100 window. Both are 738s.

This week:

DFW-DEN, A321, Sunday STD of around 630pm: cleared at 100 hours

After a rather crazy March and April - currently no flights scheduled in May. :)

I have had much better success as a platinum Pro getting upgrades when flying through LAX as opposed to other connection points. I try to use a connection at LAX whenever I can find something that works.

April 29 was a good day to fly.

GNV->MIA. Cleared at T-100
MIA->DFW Cleared at T-100 on a 777-200 😁
DFW->LAX Cleared at T-24

Interestingly, the DFW flight to LAX had J 8 for a while and I kept seeing the upgrade sale in the app. Guess they were hoping for some folks to pay the $205. At the gate there were still 3 seats open. Two went to PPs and one went to a Platinum.

I also, for the first time, actually used my 3 free checked bags benefit. Had equipment with me this trip. On a different note, the puddle jump flight to Prescott AZ cost me $345 for checked bags even as a Silver Premier on United. They also hassled me about gate checking my tripod and forced me to pay for another checked bag. American has never given me grief as long as I gate check. /rant

Finally got to use a SWU.
