igopogo is correct. They are not elite qualifying miles in the sense of helping you towards your annual GLD/PLT/EXP status but they will count towards your Million Miler miles if they post before December 1st. Until that cut-off date, miles from all sources still count

You are not wrong. Purchased miles are basically RDMs just not EQMs and they do contribute to the MM total for now.

MODERATOR'S NOTE

8/25/11 - AmericanAirlines has announced that members who achieved Lifetime Gold under the existing unpublished program after Jan 1, 2011 and received 8 500-mile electronic (sticker) upgrades are eligible to exchange them for 35,000 AAdvantage miles, which will be the standard for members achieving Lifetime Gold under the new published program after Dec 1, 2011. The exchange must be requested before the end of the year.

hmmmm, I'm glad you pointed that out since those stickers are useless to me since I normally get complimentary upgrades due to my XPL status. So I guess I need to wait until I reach the Million Miles before I do this request, just do it before the end of the year. I am thrilled that you posted this information for me. Thanks.:D

Any anecdotal reports/announcement on AAdvantage eShopping miles during these last few weeks before the new program goes into effect? eShopping miles are like snails getting posted. It takes weeks for them to even get them posted on the shopping site, let alone officially posted as miles. Any chance of miles "in progress" on December 1 getting grandfathered in as lifetime miles?

If you look back about 45 posts, I think you'll find the beginning of a discussion on that and your answer.

This is the above referenced posting.

Nobody seems to have commented on a sentence i noticed in today's MM e-mail we all seem to have gotten, to wit:

"All of your Program to Date AAdvantage miles earned so far as well as any AAdvantage miles posted between now and November 30, 2011, will count toward the new Million Miler program."

This sentence appears to address the question several of us have discussed here on FT, which is whether miles that post after 12/1 but are backdated to a date prior to 12/1 will count. The way I read the e-mail, backdated miles will not count in the MM total. If they're not there on 12/1, they don't count. Anybody else read it differently?

I am winding down my AA eshopping purchases with the idea that only those that have posted to my AA account by 12/01/2011 will actually count toward lifetime status. If I get a few more AA miles to post that are lingering around in the system, it will be a bonus for me.

My credit card posting dates are just ahead of that cut off. When as much as possible has been earned and cleared I'll move on to another credit card that gives cash back and not AA miles.

I think you are focusing on the wrong post. An AA rep posted on milepoint that a transaction with an activity date prior to 12/1 that posts subsequent to 12/1 will still count toward MM status.

Overall, the end of the informal-miles-from-all-sources MM program has morphed to too much fact, not enough rumors: I wonder if AA picked 12/1/11 to coincide with the day they plan to go chapter 11?

That is good strategy. Pity they make this change when I am close to being Plat for life. I got a Citi Visa offer for 50K with $3k to spend. Do you know any other offers out there for AA miles that I could use before 12/1/11?

Wonderful! AAM. Tons of email to sieve thru. Found some other ideas. Thank you.

Regardless of their disclaimers, my miles posted days after I received my card and spent the required amount. My Admirals Club membership, paid in July, will be credited to the card on a pro rata basis.

So then I checked buying miles from AA but in the FAQs they say that bought miles do not count towards elite status. So I'm going to do all the AA eShopping and AA Dining I can in the next month! For once my holiday shopping is getting done early!

Any other ideas?

Okay, sorry to sound so ignorant but that's the reality. I will make gold tomorrow if my SPG point post, as suggested here on a wednesday. Will AA notify me? Will they tell me when the upgrade certs are available? Will they mail me a special gold card?
I want to make sure to have time to cash in the upgrade certs for the 35,000 miles, so I am eager to be prepared on all fronts. Thanks for any info

timing question

I wonder if AA did themselves a disservice starting MM on Dec 1 rather than in the first few months of 2012 to drum up another eligible 'year's' worth of BuyMiles transactions. In my quest towards 2MM, I know I would purchase another 40K + 10K in January if those miles applied to MM totals, but will not if they don't as I have plenty of RDM.

If they feel they've missed an opportunity they have the option to raise the limit for this year (before 12/1 obviously)...that would have the same effect.
