Perpetual Gold member (25K) ~ 40 yrs for 1MM / 80 yrs to LT Plat Perpetual plat member (50K) ~ 20 yrs for 1MM / 40 yrs to LT Plat Perpetual EXP member (100K) ~ 10 yrs for 1MM / 20 yrs to LT Plat and considering Gold would be a shock to the system of an EXP member ... the real timing of consequence to me is: .... 20 yrs to get to LT Plat - that's just WAY too long to consider So why do I bother myself with checking this thread, I don't know ... hard not to be disappointed at the timing. I do wish the previous years of travel were with AA so I could have broke the tape before this. I was/am excited about reaching EXP, and plan to stick with it for the time being, but this took a lot of wind out of the sails. It's mostly discretionary travel we're doing, so this makes it that much more of a challenge to remain with the game plan. |

though it also seems a waste to fly 450k BIS miles on AA just to get lifetime gold... any advice guys? ex-LAX and I'm turning 25 this year... I hope to get lifetime status SOMETIME before i die... that is... if either airline doesn't go bankrupt before that... |

How is this any different than DL or CO/UA's plan?
I am only saying it "used to be" a motivating factor to travel more than I would have either - under the new rules, there's little to no chance, even with maintaining EXP level travel perpetually, that I could achieve LT Plat in a timeframe where this could factor in for me. If they keep throwing DEQM opportunities, I'll continue to pursue EXP, but used to have LT Plat as a goal. I'll get to LT Gold ultimately, but really, and I don't mean to dimish for anyone that has achieved, that is a "big whoop" in my view - it's too easy to maintain Gold naturally on an annual basis for LT Gold to be a motivation. |
I agree. AA gave us the benefit of a few months to achieve MM status or higher. I was getting close to MM so this has made it possible for me to get creative, do quite a number of things I wasn't going to do right now, but I feel confident I will get MM by the deadline. For those not quite able to do it, they have offered their credit card, albeit expensive, though loaded with benefits. I applaud AA.

Never compared it to another program ... wouldn't have considered their's reasonable either with a timeframe necessary to acheive that level of BIS.

But I have a question, will the Million Miler (or Lifetime) Qualifying Miles expire, after the new program appears? (I mean, will they have an expiration date?) |

As many have said, this has been expected for a while. Delta did the same thing a few years back, and also grandfathered everyone. Bu with their current mileage levels to get an award ticket (140,000 miles to get to Honolulu in December vs. 75,000 on AA or UA), I would still rather fly UA or AA.
Delta is also the worst US Carrier on international upgrade fare requirements and is often 2X higher in miles required for international aware seats. |

I have to agree on that. I just flew to London last week for 40K RT on AA. DL wanted 60K for the same dates.

That was really my point. Sure, AA has tightened down on LT status, but they're really no different that other carriers now. At least AA has allowed me to get to 1.4M miles with all sources. Now I just need to get the next 600k in flight miles to get LT Plat. I don't begrudge them that at all, they understandably tightened down on their requirements. I can't hold that against them. Actually, I feel it's a credit to them that they now require fligth miles to truly 'earn' LT Gold or Plat status.
I may not actually make 2MM miles from flying. Who knows what my flight plans are after 2013. But I'll get to where I can and then go from there. Hopefuly I'll make 2MM at some point soon and get my LT Plat status though, just for those days when I do drop off from yearly EXP status. |

It's a non-factor, a non-promotion for anyone that can do math. |

What part of AA could give a rats a.. if we are happy or not. They went so far off the track here to only count BIS miles that it was clear they don't care. And for all you who think they do and are warm and fuzzy...I bet all of you have LT status or will have 900+ miles by 12-1. Anyone with less is slapped across the face by AA for being loyal.
Those that have, have....those that don't, will in 10-20-30 years. |
Full disclosure.
I am at 860, and can buy 40k with AA.com. So. Any suggestions on how to get the other 100k in time? I had another 70k coming, I thought, but they capped the card at 150k already and I didn't realize it. :( |
If I reach 1MM by 12/1 and have a foreign address, do I still get 4 eVIPs? Thanks.
