10:27PM EST. Looks like the wheels were in motion already by then. No worries - I'm sure they'll post on the 30th and that's all that matters...

The whole purpose of getting 35k miles rather than 8 stickers is that they are worth more and gets you to 2 MM which gets 4 VIPs If you get the 4 VIPs for 1 MM as an intl AA account, why would anyone bother getting 35k miles instead?.

Does anyone know if this option is available now or is it only part of the new program? My husband reached 1MM, but it looks like he automatically received upgrades. Thanks.

See my post in the other thread D-day race.
If you call or email them via their website, it is done within a day after the stickers post to your account

Just to be clear, do you think SPG transfers points every Wed. or every 2nd Wed as TheHawk75 said?

They post every Wed. I have been transferring regularly over the past month and as long as you get it done by Monday, it posts on Wed. Wyndhams posts Mon and Thursdays I think.

Mileage Multiplier usually posts the same day you buy it.

You can trade them in under certain circumstances. Read the section under "Moderator's Note" in the first post of this thread.

Thank you soooo much!! :D We called and they presto-changeo'ed the upgrades to 35k miles!! yippee!!

Thanks for all your quick and insightful replies to my question re: the SPG transfer to AA miles. I've been holding off in case some of my other activity posts to my AA account to reach the MM. Does it seem to others that AA is a lot slower on posting activity lately? One time I checked and they had my total miles posted, but hadn't yet posted what the transactions were that accounted for the total. I imagine they are overwhelmed by the response in the last 2 months.

AA will post the miles with the original transaction date (the date you requested SPG to do the transfer) not the date it got posted to AA. I had SPG and Hyatt take two weeks to post to AA earlier this year but the date on AA is always the date I requested SPG/Hyatt to do the transfer.

For example, SPG allows only 80K transfers per day. So if you make a request on NOV 1 and NOV 2, they'll most likely be reflected on AA on the same date (let's say NOV 15), but AA will reflect NOV 1 and NOV 2.

so with the new Million Mile program, will eligible JetBlue flight miles count towards million mile? (I know they don't get EQMs, but if I get MM credit, it might still be worth it). They have some nice flight options out of DCA/IAD...

I believe they will. The T&Cs say "any eligible AAdvantage program participating airline" but the FAQs omit the word "eligible".

when miles count: AA reps sometimes wrong

Interesting. Ostensibly seems if paying the $35 to Citibank would be an "insurance policy" of some sort more than anything else.

ADVICE: PAY CITI the $35 fee to get miles billed in 3 business days, because:

If you are close to MM status, DON'T TAKE JUST ONE REPRESENTATIVE'S WORD ABOUT THE RULES, if it's about something really important. (Like whether or not miles charged in November will still count if they are not billed until December.)
I wouldn't risk it, having now had numerous phone conversations.
Even though the opposite may turn out to be true, I've been told far more often than not that points would NOT count if posted in November but not billed until Dec.
I've been told this by both Citi and AA people.
And I've often been given conflicting info about other things in different phone calls—I've called a lot, because I found out only about 2 weeks ago, while bumbling around the website, that there was a "Program to Date" listing; hadn't seen that before, and didn't know I was close enough to 1 million to go after it.
It's best to double-check with a supervisor (many more of them know the score than about 50% of the reps; often reps may be new, or "didn't read the new rules since August", or are just winging it—and they are trying to protect the supervisors from too many calls, and will often be confused or make assumptions based on the old program.

That's where the $35 fee to Citi comes in: Citi will expedite the BILLING of charges that have already been posted to your card, so that the Aadvantage points can be posted to your Aadvantage account within 3 business days.
My last billing cycle closed November 7, so although I've had a fair amount of charges since then, they will not bill till December, and then it will be too late.
Anyway, I have proceeded on that assumption, since I've been told that about 990% of the time.
If anyone misses the Dec.1 deadline, I hope I'm wrong, or else that American has a change of heart and counts anything that was charged, and then has been "pending" and was finally "posted" in November, even if billed in December!
(I think that their using "post" in 2 slightly different ways doesn't help: once miles are "posted" to your Aadvantage account, that's it, they count; but to get there, apparently, the credit card charges first have to be not only "posted" but "billed".)

I just spoke with a Citi supervisor a couple of hours ago, and she said they were getting many many calls from people who were doing the expedited billing thing, because of concern about points being in their Aadvantage Mileage account by December 1—and they want to get the Million Miler status.

Sorry if I've been confusing myself!

Did she provide a number? I've called Citibank twice already and neither one has heard of this...:(

Initiated Hyatt transfer on NOV 18. Posted NOV 22 (they batch every 2 weeks).

If I get a million miles before 12/1, do I get SWUs?

Sorry to make a separate thread, but I've been reading in the main thread and Googling and can't find the answer to this question.

I'm about 100k away, and could buy miles/purchases/transfer/etc. to get there by Dec 1 instead of likely Jan 1 -- if it makes any difference as to the million mile bonus I get.

After Dec 1, the bonus is 35,000 miles. What is it before Dec 1?

Thank you!

zski1 Nov 24, 2011 12:01 pm

If your AAdvantage address is outside the United States, you will get 4 SWUs. If it is within the US, you will get 8 500-mile upgrades.

flyingdervish Nov 24, 2011 12:11 pm

Thank you! Is that the same before or after Dec 1?

No, for US residents, 8 x 500-mile upgrades before Dec 1 (which can be exchanges for 35k miles) or 35k miles after Dec 1. For non-US residents, 4 x SWU before 12/1 and 35k miles afterward.

All of this is covered in the main thread on the new million-miler program: http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/ameri...12-1-11-a.html
