YMMV... But I talked to a very friendly Citi rep at the end of October (I had requested in September that they change my closing date to the 28th - the rep screwed up and change my due date to the 28th - and thus my closing date is the 2nd). I explained that the 2nd was not going to work... she said nothing could be done without skipping a billing cycle entirely... I finally admitted why I cared and she said... "OH. No problem. We have a program where you can call in and request that we send your miles early." She put me on hold to confirm the details - she claimed: 1) $35 fee 2) no limit to number of miles 3) transfer takes 5 business days (she told me to call on 11/23 to be safe).
Someone hinted at this up thread re: bonus miles. I'm not due any bonus miles this month, so I didn't think to ask. But the agent said it was a well-established program to let us buy our miles sooner than our closing date for a flat fee. |
I applied for a 75 K bonus AA citicard and was rejected because I had a AA citicard still open (that had gotten a 100K bonus on it last year). I don't know why but I applied a month later for a 40K bonus AA citibank card and just today got the cc in the mail. I am going to call them to see if I can meet the spend threshold and change the closing date to get these miles to post before 12/1/11. So it may not be too late for others to do this. Certainly perseverance furthers - rejected one day and approved another. Does anyone think it was the number of bonus miles that was the determining factor? I have never closed the old cc that had gotten the 100 k bonus. Or could it be that the 40k card is a gold card and the other is a platinum?

I know this question has been answered on this thread and elsewhere, but if someone wouldn't mind to enlighten me, I would really appreciate it. How many days does it take Starwood to transfer points into AA miles and how long does it take AA to post them to your account? Is it any faster to cal Starwood vs doing the transfer online? Thanks for your input!
|
I didn't try calling, i did all online. Transferred 5 times of 60,000 starpoints. 1x transfers took 5 days, 2x transfers took 7 days and 2x transfers took 18 days to reach my AA account.

Spg transfer posting
All postings of *wood points seem to be occurring on a Wednesday, and if you request by at least the previous Saturday, likely will post the next Wednesday. Of course no guarantees, and remember not to request more than one transfer in a 24 hr. time period, and not to request that more than 79k pts be transferred at once. If you are transfering 80k or more, need to do 60k and wait 24hrs and do another transfer.

I transferred on a Sunday from SPG and miles were there this morning in my AA account.

As a datapoint, I transferred SPG --> AA yesterday (Tuesday) and they did not post today so it definitely appears that you need to be in the batch at least a few days in advance of the Tues/Weds transfer. I don't think I'd risk later than the 24th at this point.

I initiated a transfer at 10:50 AM PST on 11/14 (Monday). The miles were already posted to my AAdvantage at 10:23 PM PST on 11/15 (which I guess since AA is on CST, would be Wednesday 11/16 for them). Additionally the miles had a transaction date of 11/14 (not the 11/16 date they landed in the account). For additional information, I also initiated a transfer on 11/8 at 11 AM PST (Tuesday before last), and those miles also landed in the account at the same time as those previously mentioned. So, miles are definitely posting in batches on a Wednesday. These were actually test transfers just to see how fast the miles do post, since I've got a bunch I want to transfer over (and still holding out for that glimmer of hope they run another hotel transfer promotion, which of course seems extremely unlikely now). I used 20K on the old transfer and 40K on the more recent one, so, that when they did land I'd know which transfer was which. Bottom line, if it is every 2nd Wednesday, then, it seems you should be safe if you initiate the transfer by noon-ish on the Monday before that, but, obviously as indicated by daveland, the Tuesday will to be too late. daveland, out of curiosity, do you know what time you initiated the transfer? |
Thanks for all your quick and insightful replies to my question re: the SPG transfer to AA miles. I've been holding off in case some of my other activity posts to my AA account to reach the MM. Does it seem to others that AA is a lot slower on posting activity lately? One time I checked and they had my total miles posted, but hadn't yet posted what the transactions were that accounted for the total. I imagine they are overwhelmed by the response in the last 2 months.

Just to be clear, do you think SPG transfers points every Wed. or every 2nd Wed as TheHawk75 said?

I do know that my request to transfer last week Tuesday (8 days ago) did not arrive until today. But, my request from this Monday (2 days ago) also arrived today. If someone did get miles from SPG deposited into their account last Wednesday (7 days ago), then this blows the whole 'every 2nd Wednesday' theory out of the water. |

I spoke to an AA representative, and she said that all miles with a transaction date before 12/1/11 will count towards MM status no matter when they arrive at AA. I asked her if credit card miles transferred over before 12/1/11 but later one returned some things that caused a mileage deficit, could one lose MM status? She said she needed to talk to a superior. She returned and advised me to be sure I had an excess of miles in case a December credit card statement had a deficit of miles. I thought that reply seemed unlikely but it certainly would be protection if one had a surplus beyond a MM. Hope this is helpful

I asked an AA citibank rep about this program. She confirmed that for $35 they would move miles over early, but this did not apply to bonus miles. She even rechecked on the bonus miles for me.

To be clear, I do not assert that it's every 2nd Wednesday, I was just restating what others have already said.

My understanding is that as long as you initiate the transfer by a particular Monday (not sure of the time zone here, the transfer I did on 07 Nov was at 10am PST) then you get the points that Wednesday. If you wait until Tuesday, you will not get the points until the *following* Wednesday, so there is a maximum of 8 days delay (which you experienced). Hope that makes sense. |
It looks like AA is working on AA.com and making changes related to the million miles program. The summary and mileage information is currently down and I see the new field for "Million Miler Balance **"
