Or correct me if I am wrong...

I can buy 40k miles getting to 900k. The maybe to the fidelity promo for another 50k. Leaving 950k. Then going forward, I would just need to fly 50k miles to get to 1MM. That could take a while, but my previous miles earned via credit cards at 900k would not disappear...right?

Is that correct?

As promised, today I’m sharing with you the details of the new AAdvantage® Million MilerSM program.

You might be wondering about the AAdvantage miles you’ve earned so far. The good news is that when the Million Miler program launches on December 1, your starting Million Miler balance will include every AAdvantage mile you’ve ever earned since joining the program. And any Million Miler status or benefits you’ve earned so far remain as well.

I know I can buy 40k miles currently to help me get closer to the MM mark.
But can I also have my spouse share 15k miles with me in addition to this?
(the terms and conditions of the offer are not too clear...)

FTer advice most appreciated.

Yes, buying and sharing are independent tracks. You can also buy SPG points and transfer those into AA miles.

How long does it take for the 8x stickers to post into the account after reaching 1MM status(before 12/1/11)?

Morning,
Sharing miles is a great idea, however I would wait until the last week of November, in hopes of a bonus promo ie: 20% bonus miles on top of what you purchase or % off. The miles take 72 hours to post so you can wait and still have the miles post before the 12/1 deadline.

The billing cycle of my Citi AAdvantage card closes on the 8th of the month. Will miles from purchases made between 11/8 and 11/30 count toward MM status, or were my last non-BIS miles those that posted on the 11/8 statement?

Looks like a cheaper option to buy SPG points and transfer to AA miles, because of the 1-1.25 conversion if you transfer 20k SPG points at a time.

Since the spending after 11/8 won't post to your AA account with a pre- 11/30 date, you will not get credit towards MM status for that spending. I'm in the same boat except that my statement date is later in the month -- although it's still not late enough to take advantage of Black Friday and other late-month holiday specials.

Ask Citi to post miles early

YMMV... But I talked to a very friendly Citi rep at the end of October (I had requested in September that they change my closing date to the 28th - the rep screwed up and change my due date to the 28th - and thus my closing date is the 2nd). I explained that the 2nd was not going to work... she said nothing could be done without skipping a billing cycle entirely... I finally admitted why I cared and she said... "OH. No problem. We have a program where you can call in and request that we send your miles early." She put me on hold to confirm the details - she claimed: 1) $35 fee 2) no limit to number of miles 3) transfer takes 5 business days (she told me to call on 11/23 to be safe).

Someone hinted at this up thread re: bonus miles. I'm not due any bonus miles this month, so I didn't think to ask. But the agent said it was a well-established program to let us buy our miles sooner than our closing date for a flat fee.

I'm hoping I can do this with my new business card. Did you just call the number on the back? or some special hotline?

I was informed of this same policy when setting up my Citi Exec card (which arrived too late to be able to have the bonus miles count for MM without an expedited miles posting).

Thank you SO much for the information!

Regular number. It's my Citi personal AMEX that's a problem for me, and the one I called about. I supposed they could have differernt policies between the card types.
