Other than a better FFP in general, as the discussion about AAdvantage vs. MP that people answering me have provided. Of course, AA could devalue things in other ways, but the original point of the thing was to put out sufficient incentive with RDM on their own...

Long term, it earns fewer miles than the checking account, but they post up front.

Open an account now and lock up $200K for 2 years (at 0.1% interest), and you should have the 200K miles post before the 11/30 deadline.

(Earn 1 mile per dollar up to the $200K level).

I haven't read BD TOS, but would it be possible to open a CD, and then cancel it before maturity?

Obviously, you would have to pay some penalty for closing the CD early, but if you get to keep the points, would this be worth it

I will now, as of 12-31-11 cut up my addvantage mastercard and apply for a starwoods amex plat card. if i need a visa/mastercard i will use my united visa.

I hope this is what you wanted AA!!!

Does such a card exist? But more importantly, why were you using an AA MC instead of Starwood Amex in the first place?

For all those thinking of opening a BD CD--you better move fast. It usually takes about two weeks to open, and then the miles post the beginning of the following month. Therefore you are too late for Oct, and miles posting in early Nov. will be the last ones to count under the current MM program. This leaves you about two or three weeks to spare to get the CD opened and miles posted the first week of Nov.

I still have 5/8 of my MM segments, and will earn 4 more in a couple of days, so I am going to try and see if they will let me convert to 35k miles. No harm in trying.

You better search the questions about BD thread and see the discussion on the penalty before you even entertain this idea. Suffice to say, it is very unusual and essentially prevent anyone to early withdrawal under any normal circumstances... and God forbid if you have any emergency and really in need of the money, you would be hit by and UNDEFINED penalty!

I'm guessing the hefty fee is up front on this one?

#fail

They wouldn't make the exception. Sad. Oh well.

The original Starwood Preferred Guest credit card did have the word Platinum on the face, but this created confusion with both Starwood Platinum status and the American Express Platinum (charge) card. The word platinum was removed when the card was redesigned and the red color was adopted.

clearly, i am asking myself this very question. as i just xfer 26k from my starwood account to aa and got a 5k bouns. starwood amex here i come...

FTers that want to redeem miles for award travel around the world are still going to rack up miles with credit cards, dining, or whatever else. It's not all about lifetime status.

Go ahead and leave if you're not happy. Please let us know what carrier you decide better meets your needs and will allow credit card miles towards lifetime status.

@tom911...tom here is the difference...i knew very shortly after using my ual visa that thoses miles dont count toward LT status. and keept charging well over 1 million in a few years. when i learned aa did count all miles i made the choice to charge with them. i have very loyal charging only up to the cap they set because i have no yearly status. at first it was only 60k a year then the past 3 years it was 100k. i have also used the e-shopping for most all of my online shopping. i was just as loyal as any of you flyers...BUT LETS BE VERY CLEARLY, TOO...you flyers are getting far more screwed by aa then me. how do you guys like being told all you yearly status bouns mean ZERO toward LT flight status. i'll reply for you all...those that have agree with aa those that dont disagree. <unacceptable language redacted>

@tom911...this may be the only reason i keep charging with aa. i am looking at sending a friends parents tickets so they can see him and his kids at christmas. i have not made up my mind if i will pay or use miles. i will say ual wanted 85k each and aa was only 40k each. so i may still keep charging on aa up to my yearly cap then the overflow yearly use amex starwood.

Isn't your loyalty towards Citibank, though? You're a Citibank customer and cardholder. You send a check to Citi each month to pay your bill.
