ARCHIVE: AAdvantage Million Miler Program as of Dec 2011 (master thd)

The active thread may be accessed here: https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/amer...aster-thd.html
As promised, today I’m sharing with you the details of the new AAdvantage® Million MilerSM program.

Here’s how it’s going to work:

Starting December 1, 2011, AAdvantage base miles earned by flying on American Airlines, American Eagle® or the AmericanConnection® carrier or any AAdvantage program participating airline will count towards Million Miler status. Before you get nervous about just BIS miles counting, for those of you who have the new Citi Executive(SM) / AAdvantage® World Elite(TM) MasterCard® credit card, as a limited time offer, one AAdvantage mile for every dollar spent on eligible purchases using this card will count toward Million Miler status. Bonus miles and additional miles earned through special offers will not count. The Citi Executive(SM) / AAdvantage® World Elite(TM) MasterCard® credit card account must be open and in good standing by December 1, 2011, and miles must post to billing statements through December 2012. Realize that this makes American Airlines the only major US airline to provide a significant non-flight way to achieve Million Miler status. And one of the few to allow Million Miler miles accrual on participating airlines.

Here are the benefits at each Million Miler threshold:

● At 1,000,000 Million Miler miles, AAdvantage members will receive lifetime AAdvantage Gold® status and 35,000 AAdvantage bonus miles (which, as you know, can be exchanged for eight 500-mile upgrades if that’s what you prefer)

● At 2,000,000 Million Miler miles, AAdvantage members will receive lifetime AAdvantage Platinum® status and four one-way systemwide upgrades

● At each additional Million Miler mile mark, AAdvantage members will receive four additional one-way systemwide upgrades

You might be wondering about the AAdvantage miles you’ve earned so far. The good news is that when the Million Miler program launches on December 1, your starting Million Miler balance will include every AAdvantage mile you’ve ever earned since joining the program. And any Million Miler status or benefits you’ve earned so far remain as well.

When you log into your AAdvantage account on AA.com on and after December 1, you’ll see your Million Miler balance separate from your award miles, so you can easily track your progress toward these mileage milestones.

For more information you can visit http://bit.ly/aadvmillion or ask any questions you may have right here.

Thank you for your continued loyalty, and we look forward to seeing you on board soon.

President – AAdvantage Loyalty Program

A. Starting December 1, 2011, base miles earned by flying

Q. Why has American decided to establish a Million
Miler program?
A. We constantly evaluate our program offerings to
ensure that they provide the best value to our customers
and protect the value of the elite status program.
Our goal was to create a program that was at least as
good as our competitors’ and we believe we've done that
by allowing accrual on AAdvantage participating airlines
as well as providing a non-flight way to earn Million
Miler status. The Million Miler program is intended
primarily to reward members who earn their miles
by flying. That said, all Program to Date miles earned
through November 30, 2011, will count toward Million
Miler status. By giving members more than 3 months’
notice of the new program terms, we hope you have
the opportunity to maximize your Million Miler starting
balance.

Q. What are the benefits of achieving Million Miler status?
A. At one million (1,000,000) Million Miler miles, AAdvantage
members will receive lifetime AAdvantage Gold® status
and 35,000 AAdvantage bonus miles. At two million
(2,000,000) Million Miler miles, AAdvantage members
will receive lifetime AAdvantage Platinum® status
and four (4) one-way systemwide upgrades. At each
additional Million Miler mark, AAdvantage members
will receive four (4) additional one-way systemwide upgrades.

Additionally, at every Million Miler threshold, members
will receive a new elite-status membership card with a
distinctive Million Miler emblem denoting how many Million
Miler miles they have obtained as well as a set of
personalized luggage tags.

Q. I already have a lot of miles; can I be rewarded
with 500-mile upgrades instead?
A. AAdvantage elite status members can easily exchange
35,000 bonus miles for eight (8) 500-mile upgrades on AA.com.

Q How can I track my progress toward reaching Million
Miler status?
A. On and after December 1, 2011, Million Miler activity
will be displayed in members’ AAdvantage accounts on
AA.com separately from award miles so progress toward
reaching this special designation can be easily tracked.

Thank you, AmericanAirlines, for passing along this info. For the most part, it sounds like what we were expecting. I suspect it will be a relief to many on this forum to have a firm timetable for this upcoming program change, in particular since it is now a documented part of AAdvantage.

Now, those of us who are approaching a MM threshold have to be sure to transfer as many RDMs as possible into our accounts before Dec 1! :)

I assume this eliminates the international exception of receiving SWUs instead of stickers?

No. If you look at the first line of the paragraph, it says "AAdvantage base miles" (my emphasis).

Only actual BIS will count. No elite or class of service bonus miles will be included in the new MM counter starting 12/1/11.

mingw Aug 24, 2011 12:36 pm

oh well. just as I started marching toward million miles...

No, only base miles will count towards Million Miler status.

Very astute! Yes, it does.

dayone Aug 24, 2011 12:40 pm

I'm a bit surprised that this will start on 12/1 and not 1/1.

It seems that the 10MM Lifetime EXP benefit remains unpublished.

grlmopz Aug 24, 2011 12:42 pm

Out of curiosity, am I correct to assume that Starwood transfers will no longer count under this new scheme?

I'm annoyingly close to million miler status. With 650K banked, two 75K bonuses upcoming, and 100K Starwood points to transfer, I'll only need 75K more by December 1st. I guess I'll have to do a lot of flying on AA!

Come to think of it, I'm sure I'll be able to spend $30-$40K on my AA card by December, 2012. Soooo close!

BlassSJU Aug 24, 2011 12:44 pm

So, the current unpublished program will stay intact until Nov 30, 2011, I assume. No 35k miles for 1mm...

so whatever miles we have through 11/30/11 should still count, right? from 12/1/11 we can only add BIS miles?

I need to find ways spending half million with my credit card by then :)

beachfan Aug 24, 2011 12:45 pm

Thanks for the heads up, Maya!

Lifetime EXP at 10MM? That's news to us! :)

So Bank Direct miles will no longer count after Dec?
