I'm at 890,000 miles and I do have AA credit cards but I rarely use them now a days. Is it worth to spend $100k and get charged 2.2% on the transaction.
I would get 100k miles for $2,200 via paypal. Is that worth it? |

Because I don't know what my future holds or if I'll fly 50k a year.

Is your FlyerTalk profile correct and you're a Platinum flying ~50k miles per year? If so, why bother when you'll be at Lifetime Gold in another two years of flying anyways?

Don't forget you can trade people for points here for certain charges...
https://www.points.com/ You can also convert some of your own points for free, for example I converted a little over 1,000 BBY Reward Zone points for just under 300 miles on AA. No charge. It makes me really sad that they're doing away w/ the credit card points counting towards MM status, that was the main reason I got a card last year... at least I can still fly w/ my rewards...but really disappointed that it won't count towards lifetime status. That was a huge part of why I decided to fly AA versus others originally since they used to be the only one that let you use bonus and CC miles towards lifetime status... |

I just received an email today announcing the new program. What's interesting is that I passed 1MM months ago, never received a letter, email or luggage tags yet this email implied that my lifetime Gold status and MM achievement had already been acknowledged. I knew because I'd read about it and saw the upgrades show up in my account, yet this seems like one hand isn't talking to the other at AA>

So, not for the life of AA, or even the AAdvantage program, but of the specific elite level you're granted "lifetime" membership of. |
Nobody seems to have commented on a sentence i noticed in today's MM e-mail we all seem to have gotten, to wit:
"All of your Program to Date AAdvantage miles earned so far as well as any AAdvantage miles posted between now and November 30, 2011, will count toward the new Million Miler program." This sentence appears to address the question several of us have discussed here on FT, which is whether miles that post after 12/1 but are backdated to a date prior to 12/1 will count. The way I read the e-mail, backdated miles will not count in the MM total. If they're not there on 12/1, they don't count. Anybody else read it differently? |
