I certainly hope not - I'm flying over 10k miles that day want the PLT bonus going towards my MM total!

That's good to know, although I have to say I'm not familiar with the milepoint forum and obviously don't frequent it.

I find it kind of odd that AA has had several chances to clarify the matter on this board and has chosen to ignore the subject (to the best of my knowledge).

Someone mentioned a while back in regards to exp status. Why rush to get in the status now when you can do 50k in Jan and 50k in Feb and get 2 years worth of status.

Can someone explain to me how that works?

Two totally different issues, the LT status is irrespective of if you gain status flying or not. I think the LT status is most important to someone that doesn't do all of their travel on AA, or at least not enough to gain status so they can benefit from free baggage, priority access, bonus miles etc.

If you fly 100K, EXP status is good for the rest of the year in which you earn it and the following year. It's a "cheap" way to maintain the status and only have to fly 100K every other year. It's great if most of your flying is domestic, but if you fly internationally a lot, you need to make your 8 systemwides last. :)

Points.com transfers count to status?

I got an email about transferring miles to AAvantage program as follows: "Until October 31, 2011, earn 20% American Airlines AAdvantage® bonus miles when you trade or exchange AAdvantage miles on Points.com™"

Right now I have almost 800k Delta miles an was wondering if these miles will count to my "Million Miler" status. Right now I have about 1.5 million for the lifetime Gold but I'd like to make it to the lifetime Platinum... any ideas?

If you can transfer them to AA before December 1, they will count toward MM status. However, you may not get a very good conversion rate via points.com, but maybe you don't want DL miles.

Using points.com exchange, is that separate from the exchange miles cap? In other words, could I swap miles with someone and gain more than the 15K ExchAAnge?

You can GIVE 60K per year, but only receive (that includes exchanging) 15K per year. Read here: https://buy.points.com/PointsPartner...odPay_FAQ_PAGE

I'm at 982K and have two upcoming Asia trip that will be completed by Nov 15. I guess I'll miss out on that 35K bonus. I am so not happy about that. Unfortunetly my tickets are purchased or I would have flown United until Dec 1. I easily could have made my MM after dec 1 if I were paying attention to how this MM program is now working. I wonder if AA would work with me if I pleaded.

Moderators note in the OP:

MODERATOR'S NOTE

8/25/11 - AmericanAirlines has announced that members who achieved Lifetime Gold under the existing unpublished program after Jan 1, 2011 and received 8 500-mile electronic (sticker) upgrades are eligible to exchange them for 35,000 AAdvantage miles, which will be the standard for members achieving Lifetime Gold under the new published program after Dec 1, 2011. The exchange must be requested before the end of the year.

Has there been a precedent where regular Gold, not LT, was able to do this kind of exchange?

I just make LT GOLD two weeks ago and easily made the exchange for the 8 stickers for 35k miles. Just call Aadvantage and ask for it after who hit the mark. Took about 5 minutes (plus the 15 minutes on hold).

Citi Executive AAdvantage World Elite MC 25,000 mile deal

I'm so close to MM that I am scrambling to get more miles in before Dec 1. I applied for this credit card for the 25,000 miles and even if I spent the required $1000 the first day I get the card, they would not guarantee they would be posted by Dec 1. Well, that saved me the $450 annual fee!

So then I checked buying miles from AA but in the FAQs they say that bought miles do not count towards elite status. So I'm going to do all the AA eShopping and AA Dining I can in the next month! For once my holiday shopping is getting done early!

Any other ideas?

Purchased miles don't count for elite status for the year, but I *thought* they counted as lifetime miles. Could be wrong.
