If you earn MM status before 12/1, how quickly do the 8 upgrades appear in your account? I earned the status a few days ago but no upgrades yet.

konaflyer Nov 27, 2011 11:11 pm

I also got MM status a few days ago too and still did not get the upgrades yet. I was worried about not reaching the MM so wound up 11 K over and that's before about 13k shows up from mileage mall. However, there's no way I'll get to 2 MM because I don't fly that much. I'm just so GLAD I've met the goal and can now put my mind on other things. If I enjoyed watching my investments in the same way that I enjoy getting FF miles, I'd be very rich. But getting FF miles is the closest thing to traveling and dealing with the stock market feels like gambling which I don't like. Anyway, I'm toasting all of you who have made their goal or are within striking distance in the next few days!!!

Call the number at the back of your AA Citi card. Ask to speak to a supervisor.
They are now all aware of the AA million miler program thanks to all the calls this past week.
You JUST might make it by calling ASAP this morning.

BTW - officially it takes them up to 4 business days to expedite the transfer.

Any recent info/experience with this would be appreciated. Assuming I've done my math correctly and don't have any unexpected miles post before Thursday, my flight on 12/30 will put me over 2 million lifetime miles. I'm hoping the SWUs won't post on 12/31, but am seriously contemplating not putting in my ADV #, flying coach and just requesting credit for the trip after 1/1.

MM status upgrades

I reached EXP about 10 days ago. My system-wide upgrades were posted about 3 or 4 days later.

I transferred 26K SPG miles last Wed and still awaiting their posting. I would imagine they will show up in the next day or so. Last time I transferred SPG points the AA posting date was the same date I transferred them, tho it was 4 or 5 days later.

AMR Bankruptcy

From Maya Leibman:

Quote:

Dear AAdvantage® Member,

As you may know, on Tuesday, November 29, American Airlines filed for reorganization under Chapter 11. We took this action as part of our efforts to secure our long-term success in delivering the highest standards in air travel. We are committed to meeting your travel needs with outstanding customer service and safety, and it will be business as usual at American throughout our reorganization process. More than 80,000 people at American appreciate your loyalty and look forward to continuing to serve you.

We want to assure you that your AAdvantage® miles are secure. The AAdvantage miles that you've earned are yours and will stay yours, subject to usual policies, until you choose to redeem them for a great award with us. Likewise, your elite qualifying miles and your elite status, including lifetime status granted under the Million MilerSM program is secure and remains intact. You will continue to earn miles through all our existing AAdvantage participating companies including the Citi® / AAdvantage® credit cards and you will be able to redeem those miles for the same great awards — flights, upgrades, car rentals and hotels just to name a few. And, throughout the coming year, we will be adding even more opportunities to earn miles, as well as new ways to redeem those miles.

American is honoring all tickets and reservations as usual, and making normal refunds and exchanges. And, we intend to maintain a strong presence in domestic and international markets. As we and all airlines routinely do, we will continue to evaluate our operations and service, assuring that our network is as efficient and productive as possible. Additionally, relationships with our oneworld Alliance and other codeshare partners are continuing to provide you with opportunities to earn and redeem miles for travel to hundreds of destinations worldwide, and we are honoring all tickets and reservations for travel on our partner airlines as usual. For information about American's reorganization process, please visit AA.com/restructuring.

Even more importantly, we remain committed to providing a superior customer experience with a focus on delivering what our customers value most — the newest fleet with our upcoming aircraft deliveries, network strength in the important cities of the world and world-class products, service and technology.

American Airlines has a proud history, and we will have a successful future. All of us on the American team thank you for your loyalty and we look forward to welcoming you aboard soon.

Sincerely,

Maya Leibman
President — AAdvantage Loyalty Program

We all knew that eliminating credit card spend, BD, etc from the Lifetime miles accumulation was going to hurt revenue, but I didn't think it would push them into bankruptcy!!! ;)

Lest we forget....Lifetime status is for the lifetime of AAdvantage. Not the member.

Your miles and lifetime status are in tact as long as AAdvantage remains in tact. AA (and the judge) can do anything they want in BK, including selling off AAdvantage or rebranding/rebuilding it. If they can gut a pension program and force new contracts, they can revamp the program as well.

And, in a merger, which is also possible, the new program(or other airline's program) could also wipe out any lifetime statuses.

I'm 85K from MM and opted to not shift Hilton and SPG points over because I feared this very scenario. Rather than dump the valuable hotel points, I'll earn the rest I need the hard way. And I've already got Gold for the next year and can easily do 85K BIS miles to get there if the airline is still flying under the AA livery and not someone else like US.

You're right, but I bet AA (or even a buyer) would value those MM customers and would rather retain them.

Million Miler program is here to stay. No matter what happens re: merger or acquisition.

Yeah, but there is a possibility of AA/its successor going to a 4 tier system where the current first and second tier lifetime levels have little meaning.

Gold
Platinum
Executive Platinum
Presidential Platinum?

Much like DL's 4 tiers where silver is basically just a bag fee waiver.

Centurion Nov 29, 2011 8:37 am

You have no concept of what is happening in this Bankruptcy. I do not mean this as an insult. The fact of the type of BK filed and NO DIP financial loans says a lot without even looking at the bankruptcy records which you can access your self on a system called PACER. Just feel sorry for long term employees who did not retire and small vendors who are certainly going to get scre...

You can find a post from an attorney on another thread. AA is in control of this Bankruptcy so zipp nada anything is going to happen to your lifetime AAdvantage account....except added fule surcharges like all the other airlines are doing.

Which other USA-based airlines have fuel surcharges on their OWN award inventory?

I'll save you the trouble: that would be "zero".

(Europe, Asia and Canada are different. Very different- in many cases there is a national airline with overwhelming market share like LH, SQ, AC, AF and so on, you aren't flying domestic routes that are 5-9 hours, and so on.)

The day AA does this (if they do it), expect WN to go to town in advertising:"When we say 'free flights for awards', we mean it. We don't stick you with hundreds of dollars of fuel charges and junk fees.", the same way that they hammer home no baggage/change fees.

Given that fuel's the major component of air travel, it would make domestic flight awards almost useless (and thus make those lucrative credit card deals nearly useless)- 25,000 miles for maybe a 20% cut in the price of airfare? Fuggedaboudit.

Every US airline that has merged has kept their Miles program miles and Lounge club memberships.

Delta never had a lifetime Crown Club Card

Western Airline did

After the merger while Delta didn't sell a lifetime - they honored Western's lifetime cards.
