So glad I'm at 2.6 million lifetime and vested for Platinum For Life already. Makes all of those hours sitting in airplanes even more worth it. Also I'm glad it's a official program of Aadvantage.

My goal and dream was to achieve PLT lifetime status. Until now, I would credit every thing I could to the AAdvanatge program in order to accumulate miles towards this goal.
I fly about 50,000 BIS miles per year, so now my dream will only take 12 years! (said with sarcasm).
I feel that this dream is now being pushed too far away for it to be considered an attainable goal.
For us Canadians, we cannot use the credit card described in this forum.
At the very least, AA should reward thier top-tier flyers based upon our current AA status by awarding not only base miles but also the status bonus miles towards Million Miler status. This would at least encourage people to maintain the Gold/PLT/EXP statuses in order to get the MM miles from the 25%/100% status bonuses.

I don't undertsnd the logic here??

If you fly 50K miles a year why are you dissapointed that LT Plat is harder to get?

You will be at Platinum with your travel
Your upgrades will be easier as its less easy to get LT Plat
What is the downside

kbs972 Aug 25, 2011 10:16 am

Now just to figure out how to get 100k miles in the next few months...fingers crossed.

I agree with the change, even though it isn't helpful to me. Also agree it should be associated more closely with class of service, even though I don't ever pay to fly first/business.

That person is sitting at 1,400,000 miles - thus needing 600,000 miles to reach 2MM. At 50,000 per year multiplied by 12 years = 600,000 miles.

I'm still about 500k away from lifetime gold and sad to see the old unofficial system go but also recognize it was more than generous and I've benefited from it greatly. The only thing I wish is that with the change they would have added one more bonus way to get the miles- whether that would have been extending the mileage gain not just for the new AA credit card but any AA credit card or still allowing bonus miles to count. Would have been a nice bonus, but it is what it is.

I'm one of the "lucky" ones. By December 1, without any additional flying (other than what is currently scheduled) or purchases, I'll have about 1.9 million miles. While I obviously wish the date was a little further out, because it's going to take a little longer now, this is pretty doable for me. :) What would be nice would be one of those Groupon trips that they have started. A couple thousand bucks at 8 miles per dollar would help a lot.

Why? There's nothing unclear to respond to. Since the last AmericanAirlines response, there's just been a lot of gnashing of teeth, whining, threats to leave AA, Citi,America, Planet Earth, a smattering of why this makes sense. Oh yeah, and a lot of questions that are already answered in the OP, the link in the OP and in the FAQ here.

Seriously, nothing to respond to.

Cheers.

Well, as much of a disappointment as it is, we'll all live. :)

I think it would have been nice to have LT PLT, because then when I get to the stage where I don't fly as much anymore, I can still have lounge access when I travel internationally. But for the next few years, as EXP, this doesn't even come into play. So, while I won't switch away from AA flying, the question is, what will I do when I eventually lose status? Maybe I'll churn credit cards to fly in premium cabins on whichever airline. :D

I was describing this to my wife as like the earthquake incident on the east coast. While us Californians are snickering at all the hoopla over 5.8, the folks at DL and UA are laughing at the moaning and groaning of the AA forum. :)

Correct. Only October average balances be posted in time (early November).

A related question... If you open a Bank Direct CD, I understand you get those miles up front. Does anybody know how fast they post? I am assuming an account would have to be opened in October for the miles to post in early November with the monthly Bank Direct postings. However, I would really like somebody to confirm this.

I opened a BD CD a couple of months ago and the miles posted within the week after the close of the first month.

We have good news for some of you. Members who have earned 1 Million Miler status since January 1, 2011, will have a limited opportunity to exchange eight (8) 500-mile upgrades for 35,000 AAdvantage bonus miles if none of the upgrades have been used. Please call AAdvantage Customer Service at 1-800-882-8880 (say “AAdvantage Account” when prompted at the Main Menu) to request this transaction.

Probably for redeemable miles only, not LT miles.

I would just like to reiterate that I think it's a mistake not to include a COS bonus or some other revenue based differentiation.

Thanks for your contribution to the forums.
