I can see the 787-9 to be operated between LAX and SYD/AKL beginning end of Oct/early Nov.
For example YYZ-SYD via LAX retails for US$1,250.
Can anyone confirm if this is bookable?

I wouldn't say the pitch "sucks", as 38" pitch is basically the standard in PY products. But, I do agree that it could be better. JL has 42", e.g., with a shell so your pitch stays at 42" no matter what position your seat - or the seat in front of you - is in. ^
I have had some experience with BA's WT+ and I would have paid double for the shell. The number of times that the person behind me either hit my seat or used it as leverage to avoid waking their seatmate was countless in two BOS-LHR trips.

I was able to book a Nov/Dec flt in PE to AKL a few weeks ago when it was switched to a 787-9 without any problems. No problems wait listing SWUs either.

i couldn't tell the difference in J recently AKL-LAX. Seems a good FA or two can make the difference unnoticeable.

The Points Guy (link) has published the AA schedule for introducing Premium Economy on other aircraft:

(At this time, AA still has not announced plans to use a Main Cabin Extra - Premium Economy - Business upgrade path.)

"During Merrill Lynch’s 2017 Transportation Conference this morning (18 May 2017), AA released the following schedule for the retrofit:
  • Boeing 777-200 (772): starting by June 2017, completed by March 2018

  • Airbus A330-300 (333): starting by September 2017, completed by December 2017

  • Boeing 777-300ER (77W): starting by December 2017, completed by June 2018

  • Boeing 787-8 (788): starting by March 2018, competed by June 2018"

In the comments of the article, JT made the following statement:

On the "complimentary same-day upgrades": An AA spokesperson has confirmed to me that this is NOT the case now or the plan to add this. I expressed that I was very disappointed in this. Lots of undersold PE cabins since May 4. Seems PE is turning into a nonrev cabin.

Does anyone else have information about this? It seems to be contradictory to what we've been led to believe.

(Green mine.)

That is an aggressive schedule. Hope it keeps. Good for AA. Good for us.

Sounds like they up and changed their minds on this if he's correct.

Goodbye 3-3-3 MCE on the 45J 772 and 77Ws.

At least those are some of the last to be refitted, and I would bet my farm on AA not getting this done on schedule.

With the W refit, I wonder if the last of the old configuration 772s will be the first to receive W or will it be a separate retrofit.

PE is only available on the few 787-9s in AA service, and there's little awareness or marketing of the class. I doubt AA decision makers would choose to add a PE cabin after these years of AA, BA, etc. having PE and IB adding them if they though they'd lose revenue on adding PE.

No. But they went 3-4-3 on the 37J 772s after the first 13 772 (45J) refurbishes. So I'm almost positive they will go 3-4-3 when they put W seats in.

Annoying- Can't "Downgrade" AA J Award into Partner PE

I am looking at using AA Business MileSAAver awards to a trip where I would fly the LH in J, and since there is no J on the SH connecting flight, I would be willing to downgrade cabin of service for that segment. Problem, no Y available, only PE. AA can't downgrade to the PE cabin using AA J awards, even though they are available to other OW carriers using their award currency.

I sure hope this changes soon.

Rant over..

I'm sorry for your dilemma.

The only aircraft with PE at this time is the Boeing 787-9, and I suspect AA full rules regarding PE are both currently under consideration and won't be finalized (with the IT changes required) until AA decide whether they will go fully with oneworld compliance (PE separate class of service with upgrade notes at Y-PE, PE-J, J-F) or a unique AA rule. At the moment, I believe the PE issue is a work in progress - other than we know it's coming to a number of other long haul aircraft by the end of 2018.

Much less what AA will work out with partners. And SH (Sharp Airlines) is not an AA partner I'm aware of, so I'm a bit confused over your actual flight plans.
