This point needs to be emphasized. BusinessExtraa participation tends to require a lot of tracking. The reliability of point posting is nowhere near that of mileage posting.

Heh... understood, but that's better than not getting any points.

I put a ticket on hold, then while negotiating the final details of the trip with the client, I got a Business Extraa promotional email. I had never heard of it before.

I went ahead and joined, then purchased the ticket that was on hold. I saw no place to enter a Business Extraa number. I phoned their help desk, and the agent put the Business Extraa number in my reservation.

So, in answer to various question on this thread, yes, you can add the BE number after the fact.

I do have a question:

No reason not to join. You'll probably be able to earn ≈2500 BE pts per year (points are based on base fares, but are doubled unless you originate DFW or MIA).
In the BE website, it says points are doubled at 200 airports, excluding DFW and MIA. I can't find, anywhere, what airports are INCLUDED.

Specifically: LAX

Anyone know?

Finally, what's to stop me from getting my friends (non-employees) with Aadvantage accounts to enter my BE number and give me points? I did not see that in the T&C, but could have missed it.

All airports are included. Basically, you always get double points, unless you are flying with DFW or MIA.

There is technically nothing stopping you from claiming friend's credit, as far as I can tell.

Just to be clear, the itinerary must originate in DFW or MIA to be ineligible for double points. Simply flying through DFW or MIA does not disqualify an itinerary or segment from earning double points.

There is nothing stopping that. It is a lot easier than it used to be, because BE number can be entered in one's profile. Your friends will have to enter your BE number in their profile. Then, when they book through AA.com, you will get credit. If they book some other way, you will not. If anything causes a ticket re-issue, you won't get credit (unless your friends make sure your BE number is put back in their record).

5,000 mile bonus for new Extraa account

I got an email offer from AA to setup a new Business ExtrAA account. I own a small business, but we don't do much business travel, so it doesn't really have much value to me. However there was a 5,000 mile personal incentive if I sign up the company, and complete at least 1 flight before 12/31/10 on the account.

I already have all my travel booked until the end of the year. According to the Business ExtrAA site I can contact them to have the account added to an existing reservation.

Any thoughts on AA honoring the 5,000 mile offer if I do this?

It should be fine. Prior to the present system where you could embed the BE number in your account for automatic entry into reservations, it had to be done manually, and was often forgotten, requiring us to call BE to have the number attached to existing reservations. Usually the points would then end up crediting fine.

What about if I booked vacation package, where there is no BE line to be added. Would I get credit if I had my business extraa number in my profile? Thanks

Where would you have booked this vacation package? On AA Vacations?

I thought you get BE points if you spend money on AA.com. What if you purchased a ticket on Expedia but on AA metal? Could you ask to get BE points for that?

I do that all the time. I fly on mixed AA-US tickets that I buy from Expedia. I use EBATES as the starting portal (you get 1% cash back from Expedia) then book the ticket. BE will not let you claim credit for a ticket within 14 days of the beginning of the trip. So I set up myself a reminder in Outlook for 14 days in the future with the date of the flight, the AA ticket number and the fare paid. I have not had a problem yet with this system.

Save your ticket number and the fare paid and do a manual request for BE credit 14 days after you begin your trip.

I just joined BE a few weeks ago, but just flew on an itinerary that I purchased several months ago. Can I request points for those 14 days after completion of the trip? Or must I have been a BE member during the purchase of the tickets?
