Always better to get the BE number attached prior to travel, even if not right when ticketing.

As long as the you started the trip AFTER you joined BE, you can request credit for the ticket 14 days after you began the trip. So if you joined BE on Sept 1st for example, and your trip began on Sept 3rd, you can ask for credit on Sept 17th.

I have 432 points expiring 12/31/10
Do I just need to order the awrd or do I have to fly?
Also- can One Way awards be redeemed with BE?

Just order the award with the points before they expire. Of course you could just burn 300 for a lounge pass and not use the rest of your points yet if you prefer.

You need to order the award before they expire. For some awards, such as free tickets, you have a year to use them.
Not sure if by OW you mean one-way or Oneworld, but BusinessExtraa awards are only valid on AA (and I only remember roundtrip awards, unless you are talking about one segment upgrades).

What time frame are people seeing to see credit from "manual" requests? Is it really taking 10-12 weeks?

Often I have to follow up at 12 weeks, and it takes a month or so beyond that. It is glacially slow. In addition, I usually receive less than half the points that I should, and they will not explain how they calculated what they gave me. It wouldn't be so annoying except that about half the flights seem to lose the number about the time that I board them.

If you are lucky. I am not sure it is worth the hassle for the occasional free ticket/admirals club pass. You have to track and follow almost every posting, for months. Or they will not post. You won't even get an email for 3-4 months, and then you have to try to remember all the ones you have already requested and which you haven't.

I think I already know the answer, but if I signup for one these promos, can I apply my BE # to a ticket that is already issued?
Thanks.
Thanks.

You can always apply your BE # to a ticket that is already issued. Whether it will qualify for a promo is not certain. Whether the BE # will still be in the PNR when you fly is uncertain.

I don't know abou the "occasional" free ticket or AC pass.. I don't care, as I have an AC membership. My last missing points only took about 10 weeks this time. I don't think tracking normal postings is difficult. Just compare the BE monthly posts to AAdvantage statement posts. At least now the BE number can be added to profiles. I just cashed in a business class award to CDG, so I think it was worth it.
