booking business extra award has to be nonstop.

So today i was trying to book 9 awards seats and the agent said that i can no longer book travel thru a hub if there is non-stops available from that airport.
My problem is there is only 3 award seats available on the nonstop. I looked at expert flyer and saw that there is 9 seats available thru dfw, but they would not honor it.
Was trying to fly SDF-MIA, nonstop SDF-MIA had 3 seats on award available but SDF-DFW-MIA had 9

Is this a new Rule?

I'd just put the nonstop on hold for 3 other people, book the 9 via DFW, then cancel the held reservation.

How would this help if the person has been told that doing via DFW is not permitted?

The issue seems to be whether there is such a rule prohibiting it

It is permitted if the nonstop is not available. By putting all the available seats on hold on the nonstop, you eliminate the availability. That seems to be the concept.

As I understand it DFW isn't permittes because there are seats available at the saaver rate on the nonstop, so the hold will make the seats/flights unavailable and thus a 1-stop would presumably now be allowed. If "available" refers to flight schedule or bookable at any rate then I agree the hold wouldn't help.

Is the rule not available due to no service offered or no award availability? I assumed from the OP's comment that it was non stop where non stops exist

Like AAdvantage, there seems to be a lack of information on the AA site

It is a different scheme to AAdvantage with its own rules; why could it not have a rule that says that non stops have to be used where offered?

The maximum number of seats that will ever show for any AA flight is 7, so something is not lining up when you say EF shows 9 seats. Are you looking at the seat map, or the actual number of seats for sale? You need to do an Award Availability search.

I have found the BE people amongst the worst at knowing their job.

How many agents have you talked to?

They will tell you that you can't hold a res- then tkt BE- but you can. They just don't know how to do it.

_Kurt ,well on Experflyer i saw 7 available and i called and the agent confirmed that 9 would be available. it was just not bookable because of a new policy.

There is 2 non-stops to MIA from SDF, but they only had 3 available , i then told them to bookme thru dallas which showed 7. Thats when he mentioned new policy. which i said if thats the policy than why would you not book me thru dallas since technically there is no room for 9 seats on the non-stop? he said well you can book the 3 e-savers and the rest using Anytime award :-(

Business Extra - BXP1 Upgrade Certificates

Hi all, just wanted to ask if anyone has had any experience using BXP1 upgrade certificates. Are they transferable? Can they be used for travel from the US to Mexico? You are not allowed to upgrade from fare classes N, O, Q or S - does this mean the base price of the ticket must be full fare? How can you select a fare class when booking? Thx very much.

They are transferable and can be used on a flight from the US to Mexico. You don't have to buy full fare, there are many other fare classes besides the ones excluded. At aa.com, if you're searching by price and schedule, if you click on flight details for any of the options given it will display the booking code. If the fare is in one of the excluded classes, you can put it on hold, then call AA and have it upfared to an eligible fare code.

Specifically, the lowest cost BXP1-eligible fare codes are G and V.
You should probably call the AA Meeting Services dept. to upfare, as they are the ones you will have to talk to anyway to request/confirm the upgrade.
