Paper certificate needed unfortunately. Airport agents have no access to business extraa accounts and really do not know how to do anything related to it anyway (usually trying to use the cert at the airport results in a 4 agent huddle).

Does anyone know if it is possible to book a US-EU saver award itinerary with AAdvantage miles and then reinstate the AAdvantage miles and reticket with a Business Extra award/authorization?

I wouldn't count on it. You never know if that released award will go back in to award inventory.

Thanks. Definitely did not want to count on it being returned to inventory. I was thinking something similar to the reinstate-and-repull miles when you change an award. Since BizExtra gives you an authorization code to ticket the award, I was thinking they could just reinstate the AA miles and simply insert the authorization code.

But that was just a hypothesis, I have no idea if it actually works that way.

Thanks. So, I guess having business extra reissue certs is out of the question either? Seems like they are bearers instruments (treated like cash)?

Admiral's Club renewal

Potentially interesting data point for anyone redeeming BE points for Admiral's Club membership. My membership had expired on October 10th and I redeemed my points on October 24th. They treated it as a renewal, so it now expires on Oct. 10th of next year (vs. the 24th). Oh well-- I thought I might squeeze an extra two weeks out of them by waiting.

You may be able to have them reissued by business extra customer service (there are a few stories in the thread) in the case of IRROPS or something.

However, I had a cert stolen (my whole bag was taken) and AA would not replace it.

I once tried to add a Business Extra number to an existing itinerary (the one that I was flying) at an Admiral Club. Neither of the two AAngel's knew what Business Extra was. And this was either ORD or DFW.

I find it takes about 10-12 days. I think the BE sites say they mail twice a week, but I don't buy it (or if they do, they have a few days processing time before they mail).

Here's a wacky question:

I am trying to find a saaver economy award flight from Europe to LAX that's not on BA. Even better is to avoid AA on the international segment as well.
I found a pretty sweet option CDG-HEL-JFK on a date that works great for me (not much available in general, let alone when I need it). Problem is I get stuck, there are no flights out of NYC I could find within that 4-hr domestic connection window at the saaver price.

Then I remembered my stash of Business extra points. I was thinking to upgrade anyway, then I thought, hmm, maybe this could help me out of my dilemma. I've emailed them with my question, which is, can I book the award at my economy saaver price CDG-HEL-JFK-LAX since that last segment would then be in the 4-hr connection time/available for upgrade? (business saaver). Anyone try anything like this? At any rate I'll report back with what they say. Emailed business extra for now, I figured a normal agent by phone would have no clue with this one.

No. You cannot use your BX points to upgrade an award ticket. You can use your BX points to redeem for an award ticket in business however.

Yah, I was wondering about this...as it says for the international redemptions about whether it's a full or discount fare ticket, but the only thing it says for domestic is that it can't be N,O,Q, or S. The business class one would be U. Economy awards are X.

Unfortunately I only have a bit over 1k points- enough for a business upgrade but not even enough for a domestic flight. Long shot but was trying to figure something out.

No need to wonder. U and X are award tickets, so by definition they are neither a "full or discount fare ticket."
