You need to order the award before they expire. For some awards, such as free tickets, you have a year to use them.

Not sure if by OW you mean one-way or Oneworld, but BusinessExtraa awards are only valid on AA (and I only remember roundtrip awards, unless you are talking about one segment upgrades).
