AAdvantage eShoppping by Cartera Commerce
Using, earning miles, problems, etc. (Consolidated thread)

American Airlines is not the contact for Cartera / AAdvantage eShopping .

AAdvantage eShopping FAQs and an e-contact form can be found via the "Contact Us" link at the bottom left corner of the home page.

If you have trouble getting purchases to track, there's also a browser extension to help.

Notes about Giftcards.com:
  • A separate thread exists for discussing Giftcards.com and likely has more data points than this generic thread.
  • Purchases from giftcards.com earn miles on the first $2,000 spent in the named calendar month, meaning for example between March 1st and March 31st. [Note: as of Aug 2023, the $2k limit is per order, not per purchase]
  • Giftcards.com has had various limits over the years, and it was always by calendar month.
  • Some data points show the $2,000 monthly limit is not always enforced. [Note: as of Aug 2023, the $2k limit is per order, not per purchase]
  • In 2022, larger orders track more slowly, and you may need to wait a full month to see miles. Strong advice from the thread is to make multiple small purchases (say under $300) rather than large ones to avoid the dreaded "manual review"
(Copied from the LP thread wiki): Once you click through the AAdvantage eShopping portal to a vendor offer and make a purchase, you will eventually get the associated miles posted to your AAdvantage account as both redeemable miles and Loyalty Points. If the merchant advertises an increase in the miles per dollar spent, you'll earn the higher amount in both redeemable miles and an equal number of Loyalty Points. The same applies if a merchant advertises a higher fixed amount per purchase, rather than a per dollar amount. Examples of this would appear on the portal as, "Extra miles. Was 1 mile/$. Now earn 3 miles/$" or "Extra miles. Was up to 3700 miles. Now up to 6200 miles." However, if the website advertises a "Limited-time bonus offer" for "bonus miles" after meeting a spending threshold, that bonus will only post as redeemable miles and not Loyalty Points. If a bonus is offered for some site-wide activity such as 1000 miles for installing an extension, or 500 miles for enrolling in the portal, or 2000 miles for meeting a spending threshold across multiple merchants, the bonus will only post as redeemable miles and not Loyalty Points.

Some anti-virus software silently blocks tracking, and you may want to consider disabling it for your purchase.

All other shopping malls have bonus miles except AA...I guess it is coming at some point. I assume that at some point there will also be either a discount code and/or 4x points, as we get closer to BF....although no guarantees.

Not sure what's going on this time around, but I've tried purchasing one $250 Visa GC four times today, and all four were canceled. Two were canceled immediately. Two were canceled several hours later, after I'd recevied notification that the order was being tracked by AA shopping.

Not sure what is going on. Again, I'm ordering these things one at a time - and am not processing another order until my previous order is canceled.

Weird. I ordered 1 and it was successful. Did they hit your credit card with a 1 dollar hold?

I started having this issue last month. Tried 3 different cards (across two different issuers), tried logged in with a GCC account, tried logged out, tried different browsers, tried different emails, etc. All getting cancelled. The $1 authorizations come through, so I know the card details are correct (and I purchased 3 cards during the summer 5% sale successfully), so I'm not sure what caused their fraud system to pick it up.

I filed a customer service request with giftcards.com, but unsurprisingly I got a worthless response saying they can't discuss security/fraud issues and to check my credit card billing details.

Yes - got the $1 charge. Eventually a -$1 refund once the transaction canceled. I've tried now across 3 differnet cards across two issuers. Haven't tried AMEX yet, but they're next up. Preferred putting it on my AA Exec or Hyatt Biz card, but oh well.

I just want to make sure I'm not missing anything -- there's no bonus for referring a friend to the portal, like with some other portals, is there?

I ran into the immediate cancelation issues with my Chase Sapphire Reserve. Could not figure out why, as it would hit the card for 1 dollar with no issues but GC.com would then cancel the order.

Moved over to my Amex and haven't had any issues since. Bought 30+

For those that are seeing cancellations, have you called the credit card company customer service to see if they are actively blocking the charge?

I called Citi and they said they weren’t blocking on their end.

I’ve tried and had the following canceled since yesterday:

- Citi (AA exec): 2x cancelled immediately
- Chase (CSR): 1x canceled after 2 hours
- Chase (Hyatt Biz): 1x canceled after 2 hours
- AMEX (Gold): 1x Canceled after 12 hours
WannaTheater and 355F1 like this.

I would try to call giftcards.com directly to see if they can assist.
