Notes about Giftcards.com:
  • A separate thread exists for discussing Giftcards.com and likely has more data points than this generic thread.
  • Purchases from giftcards.com earn miles on the first $2,000 spent in the named calendar month, meaning for example between March 1st and March 31st. [Note: as of Aug 2023, the $2k limit is per order, not per purchase]
  • Giftcards.com has had various limits over the years, and it was always by calendar month.
  • Some data points show the $2,000 monthly limit is not always enforced. [Note: as of Aug 2023, the $2k limit is per order, not per purchase]
  • In 2022, larger orders track more slowly, and you may need to wait a full month to see miles. Strong advice from the thread is to make multiple small purchases (say under $300) rather than large ones to avoid the dreaded "manual review"
(Copied from the LP thread wiki): Once you click through the AAdvantage eShopping portal to a vendor offer and make a purchase, you will eventually get the associated miles posted to your AAdvantage account as both redeemable miles and Loyalty Points. If the merchant advertises an increase in the miles per dollar spent, you'll earn the higher amount in both redeemable miles and an equal number of Loyalty Points. The same applies if a merchant advertises a higher fixed amount per purchase, rather than a per dollar amount. Examples of this would appear on the portal as, "Extra miles. Was 1 mile/$. Now earn 3 miles/$" or "Extra miles. Was up to 3700 miles. Now up to 6200 miles." However, if the website advertises a "Limited-time bonus offer" for "bonus miles" after meeting a spending threshold, that bonus will only post as redeemable miles and not Loyalty Points. If a bonus is offered for some site-wide activity such as 1000 miles for installing an extension, or 500 miles for enrolling in the portal, or 2000 miles for meeting a spending threshold across multiple merchants, the bonus will only post as redeemable miles and not Loyalty Points.

Some anti-virus software silently blocks tracking, and you may want to consider disabling it for your purchase.

I found myself angered this morning after receiving yet another email about Samsung offering bonus points through AA Shopping… When I still haven’t received my points from my last purchase.

***** End of mild rant *****

Word of warning regarding hotel stays booked through eshopping: while there are past reports that Cartera will honor the terms of its seasonal promotions (eg back to school bonuses) if you do in fact stay during the promotional period, I can confirm definitively that this is false, based on at least a half dozen emails asking for second opinions and supervisors and general policy confirmations. They will not do this.

If you plan to accept their promotional offer, you must both *book* and *stay* during the promotional period (notwithstanding what the actual terms of the offer say) in order to get them to not breach the terms of their offer. Caveat emptor. (Thankfully I don't need these miles for anything in particular, I just get aggravated when companies violate offer terms that they themselves drafted.)

Many of us have struggled with cancellations on GC.com, but today I actually received a call from them asking me to verify my information to process the order. The Rep said he was passing it on to their security team and hopefully future orders will be processed.

So, there may be hope for us. If you receive a call from 844-489-xxxx number, I'd consider answering. I'm 3 for 11 this week after this order was processed. I just ordered another so we'll see.
edit: 2 orders @ $250 each were processed at 9pm CT, about 30 minutes after being ordered.

I have never had an issue with over $2K/month on GC's. Last spring when this all started, I pressed the issue with GC.com and was told they will not "investigate" orders over $2K/mo.

I'm going to repeat something I posted earlier, as no one can sensibly read through 120 pages of posts. What I'm about to say is based more on things I've done in my profession than inside information from Blackhawk. They probably have security software that screens for activty frequently associated with fraud. Blackhawk probably doesn't know the exact conditions, and in fact the software vendor may not either. The software is self-learning and looks at fraudulent transactions and what characteristics were associated with them, then blocks transactions with those qualities. It's a matter of trial and error, and I've used multiple GC.com logins and different credit cards. For the past few months I've had success with the same login and the same credit card, but I try to leave several days between orders. Since they upped to 3x again I've been playing a $500 order every 2 days. I need about a half-dozen more of these to go over 200K.

I personally find it easier to to repeated GC purchases than mess around with Motley Fool and HelloFresh. There are tricks to liquidate the gift cards, and the mods don't want me posting them repeatedly, but you can look in the Manufactured Spending thread in the credit card forum, or PM me and I'll tell you how.

However, I admit I didn't read the fine print and the change from $2K/month to $2K/order is quite welcome. I will probably hit my 200K (if they keep it at 3x long enough) and then stop unless they go back to 3x. It's a lot of time and effort for only 1x LPs/RDMs.

I doubt there is a need to space the orders. I have done 6-8 orders of $250 each back-to-back in 30 minutes. My routine is 5-6 orders at a time.

I keep going for the cheap RDMs at this point, and LPs are secondary.

I stick to 1 or 2 per day because I'm more worried about being flagged on the credit card side, not GC.com or Cartera.

Yesterday I bought 6x$250 on my account to get the $1500 spend bonus. Then I tried to do 6x$250 on p2's account, and I got a notice that I could only spend $500 more due to the $2k limit (how did they know I'm p1 not p2? No idea). So I bought 2x$250.

Anyway, today I was able to buy the remaining 4x$250 on p2's account no problem. It suggests to me that $2k is maybe a daily limit now? Any ideas?

in the past it seems like only the booking needs to occur during the promotion window. I am always getting some random Holiday Bonus posting in spring/summer following an IHG stay I booked in advance.

I just got bonus miles manually posted for two Marriott stays that were booked before the 2022 Back to School Promo with the stays taking place during the promo period. Booked two Fairfield stays on 7/21 at 4-miles per dollar for the nights of 7/28 and 7/31. The stays didn't post automatically. After submitting a ticket for the missing miles after 90 days and getting confirmation that Cartera would post, I submitted a separate ticket asking for 500 bonus miles for exceeding $150 in spend. I initially received an email rejecting the claim, then minutes later they sent another email saying to disregard the last message, that they would indeed post the bonus. The 500 miles posted as both LPs and RDMs. Earlier in the year, I had success getting bonus points retroactively. My memory is hazy, on whether the booking, stay, or both were during the promo period. I had to get that stay credited manually, followed by manual posting of the bonus points, which showed up as LPs as well.

As an aside, I am unsure how AAshopping can justify not posting rightfully earned miles immediately. It seems like they sometimes play this game of holding earned points hostage until they get their issue (most likely an advertising commission) worked out with the vendor. They advertise the points, we click through and make a verified purchase based on the points advertised, and somehow WE are forced to hold in limbo.

This is how it works for every shopping partner store and is probably in the fine print as well for the program.

for the fall bonus it states: “Qualifying purchases” do not include returns, cancellations, shipping and handling, taxes, gift card or other cash equivalent purchases, and certain products that are not eligible for bonus miles."

Does that mean purchases on giftcards.com won't count towards the bonus or purchasing an item with a gift card wont count?

Neither. It means that purchases of gift cards from merchants-- whose business isn't the sale of gift cards-- will not count. Otherwise, obviously, GC.com wouldn't be in the portal.

Purchases from GC.com have counted for the bonuses in the past, and currently show up on the bonus meter.
