You already get a free first checked bag to most overseas destinations, so this isn't really a downer.

This is nice though; I am glad to see Citi/AA step up to compete with the offering from Chase/UA. The Chase/UA card offers a few more benefits, but this is at least in the same realm. A definite incentive to keep one of these around.... I've got 3 (2 personal, 1 business) and need to cancel 2 of them. Only wish that it was a completely new card, so that I could churn it

I seriously advise you to listen to the AA representative who has posted at least twice earlier in this thread that you should call Citi. I called and, as I said upstream, I was told that only some of the benefits apply to prior card holders.

I redeemed 100k miles for flights not even 2 weeks ago really wish the 10k rebate was based on annual activity and not as incurred activity. Bleh

For the 10% of your redeemed miles back, it does not specify that you must be using the miles to get a ticket. The way I read it you could get 10% back for any redemption. So if I went and spent 100k on a hotel or transferred it to Hilton I should get 10k back.

Citi has been very busy since this news came out. I will try again another day.

I do feel encouraged about keeping my AA Citi credit cards as I was about to let them go in favor of a cash back card.

I'm surprised no on has griped about priority boarding. To play devil's advocate being DFW based I'm a little scared that there will now be a major increase in it.

Definitely a cool deal for many, and I'm glad to see them doing this ^
For an EXP, the priority boarding and free checked bag aren't worth anything (the priority boarding benefit for so many more people just means even longer PA lines). But the double AA miles on AA purchases is nice, and the 10% rebate on award redemptions is nice if you occasionally use award tickets or mileage upgrades.

I think you're exactly right. My last flight out of DFW to LHR it seemed like the PA line was longer than general boarding. It's only going to get worse.

Well, I asked 2 different Citi reps and got the same response from both: pre-existing cards get the priority boarding, the free bag, the 2 miles per AA $1 spent, and the 10% award mile rebate. Pre-existing cards do not get the $100 credit or the 30,000 miles. Enough for me to go on unless there's evidence to the contrary later.

I'm happy with the free bag for my kids who don't have status but want to keep flying AA and with the 2 miles per AA $1 spent and 10% award rebate for the rest of us. If it turns out the reps I spoke with were wrong, I can always cancel the cards at that point.

We'll see. But I'm not too worried. Yes, it's nice to be ahead of the mob and get settled, but really, the critical benefit of priority boarding is to ensure you get overhead space, and even if half the plane is priority, there should still be a nearby spot open.

It's been noted that as an elite, the free bag and priority boarding are moot. But one other thought - for those of us who have been buying the Costco gift cards at 10% off face value, the double mile benefit also won't help. It'll be good for those few tickets that may not qualify for gift card purchase, ancillary fees, and on board purchases, but the bulk of my AA spending will still be going via Costco.

So how does the 10% mileage thing work?
Does it have to be me travelling, or can I use it for travel booked for another?
Do I have to charge the taxes to my Citi card?
If I have two cards, can I get 20,000 miles back?

Also wondering how they discern that you are eligible for 10% back on the award miles.

Use of a qualifying card to pay the fees?
Specific link to book award travel (similar to Citi reduced mileage awards?)
