Wiki for using AS (Alaska) Miles on JL (Japan Airlines)
All awards for domestic Japan will default to Economy (including international F or J award with domestic segments).
However, these can often be upgraded at reasonable cost at the ticket counter in the Japan connecting airport

Ah, so I guess I should just go ahead and book the TPAC flight first then call in and see what feeder flights, if any, the agent is able to tack on.
Unrelated question, it doesn't seem like the AS online search is willing to put together a JL TPAC + intra Asia flight when I search directly (ie. LAX-CGK), even though LAX-NRT (J/F) and NRT-CGK (Y) does appear when searched individually. This also one of those things I should just be able to call in and get added by the agent? Or are there some limitations I'm not aware of.

Just to report back, I guess there's sometimes issues with either phantom availability and/or communication between AS and JL?
Tried booking a flight and got the message that partner space was unable to be confirmed. The same award seats show up on AA/QF/BA so not sure if it's phantom...

Hello, so I can book LAX-TYO in F first, then "change reservation" and add TYO - SGN in J to same itinerary. The mile redemption will change also right? thank you!

AS website doesn't let you book a first class 2-segment award, with one segment in 1st and the 2nd in biz. Best to call a CS to have them piece it together for you (and remember to request that they waive the phone booking fee, when they give you the breakdown of charges)

You need to book one segment first (usually the F one) then use "Change Reservation " to access the "old" multi-city tool to add the J segment. However, sometimes it gives you "error message" at the payment step. Your PNR is updated and showing both segments but no new ticket is issued. You then call CS to get your new ticket.

Any way to get JL to see emerald status on award tickets?
Just booked 3 tickets SAN-MNL for next summer, but it wont let me select the seats saved for emeralds (windows on the 787 for example). When I look at the AS site, it shows my 100k status, but when i manage the booking on JL it doesnt see any FF attached to the ticket. When I attempt to put it on, it only gives me an option of using a JMB number. This has been a recurring problem with all the JL tickets ive flown recently ticketed by AS, only at check-in can i attach my AS number.
Any work around that I should know about?
