Wiki for using AS (Alaska) Miles on JL (Japan Airlines)

All awards for domestic Japan will default to Economy (including international F or J award with domestic segments).
However, these can often be upgraded at reasonable cost at the ticket counter in the Japan connecting airport

Award Chart
If not listed it's not available - EXCEPTION: Hawaii-Asia awards are bookable, not yet on the chart, at the same prices as Continental U.S.-Asia
(As of March 2017, Premium Economy is no longer available)
(As of October 2019, stopovers are no longer allowed on intra Asia awards)

For 2021:
F awards are available again to book directly on AS website (no need to book J then try to change segment) as of June 12, 2021.

I have 1 F and 1 J award ticket booked with them, as separate reservations.

When I log in for the F ticket, I can see all of the programs in the drop down.

But when I log in for the J ticket, I can only see JAL.

Odd seat allowance

Have a biz award from BKK to SFO on JAL and I was able to select a first class seat on the BKK to Tokyo segment for both passengers. Odd. I was limited to business class on Tokyo to SFO segment which is the class of service we redeemed for miles. Anyone have any experience with this? Wonder if well get bumped down to biz once they figure out the blunder?

They have a 777 with an F cabin scheduled on the BKK/HND sector from 26 March 2023 but only sell Y and J, so they seem to be allowing J pax to select seats in the F cabin. Assuming they don't downgrade the aircraft to a 787 then you should get J service with an F seat.
