I've generally found the food ex-Asia to be pretty good. I remember quite a few years ago the best fish dish I've eaten on a plane was ex-HKG on NZ.

Ex-AKL is not reflective of the foodie nation NZ has become.
(North American cafes owners need to spend a week touring NZ, NZ is in a class of it's own for cafe food selection)

Do the other carriers experience the same food issues ex-AKL or NZ is just extra bad?

I believe that LSG does emirates, and the food ex-AKL in both F and J is of a considerably higher standard than NZ
Although I understand that some components are shipped in from their mega-kitchen in Dubai as freight and go out the following day as meal components, but the bulk of the main meals are ex-AKL.
So NZ is extra bad. You would assume that LSG provides the quality the airline pays for.
Is it possible that NZ has a crew/preparation and service problem? Or is it largely down to the quality of ingredients?

And wow was the food bad (as people have talked about above ex-AKL)
Menu: Hapuka with mussels, garlic salt crushed potatoes and Spinach
What I got: Hapuka with plain white rice and two florets of brocolli
I wonder why AKL is such an issue for catering? I would have thought the facilities were fairly standardized (given they are all LSG)
On the plus side, service was good during the flight -- they seem to have ironed out the service flow from when i last flew in Jan.
