Given their poor load in premium cabins, AF seems to be offering paid upgrades from Y to J on a fairly systematic basis. That could lead to the behavior of booking tickets in a lower class and counting on a paid upgrade offer. I assume that AF systems will not offer the option to repeat "offenders". Apparently BA is doing the same.

Did they expect / hope a usual Y pax to pay for J ,?
Maybe to avoid an usual J pax to pay for Y and still end up in J at the lowest cost of cash upgrade.
Maybe the system make the difference before offering an upgrade of what class of service you're used to pay.

what's the logic behind not offering a cash upgrade to the same person ?

If you have been offered several times in a row, you might change your purchasing behavior. That would not apply to big corporate clients where the travel policy is rather inflexible, but small companies, wealthy individuals, etc... Same reasoning applies to opup. I would be surprised if the system does not keep track of those free or paid opups linked to the FFP membership. Whether the system also chooses to whom they offer the paid upgrade is another question, and I don't know the answer for AF.

I don't think its actually checked, because every time I fly out of Manchester there is at least one upgrade offer. Either for the Manchester - Paris/AMS or onwards. When I upgraded on check in the app crashed, when I tried again the offer was gone (except for the Man - Paris flight). I tried one more time and it appeared again, and booked it immediately. I had also booked this ticket in the cheapest fare for £380 return during the WOW sale a few months back. Will keep you posted if there is another upgrade offer.

I do not find the thread on BA, but I remember that the argument was indeed to try to avoid frequent business pax to buy in a lower class in the expectation to be upgraded for a "small" cash payment.

Hoower AA doesn't care of your past purchases and offer kiosk upgrade to everyone the same way (correct me if I'm wrong)
Interesting to know how AF management will offer cash upgrade....
My 5 cents is they won't offer them for the BEST cabin to keep it exclusive.
(BEST is, sorry was, a great seat 5 years ago now it's almost a standard / basic J)

I did not know that 32 777s would be quickchanged. That's a huge amount of work.
assuming half a day per plane (they say possible in ten hours but 12 is probably more reasonable), that is a total of 16 full days, or . If the need 100 staff as claimed, that is a huge cost even if some only work a couple of hours for each change.
And there seems to be such precise work required with thousands of screws and bolts.... That won't be an error free process.

Well, at least they set the bar high, which is a good practice.

Interestingly, an aircraft fitted with the new cabins (GSPK) has the ORY-FDF-ORY route the other day replacing the COI 77W on the second flight of the day. What a nice surprise for the lucky passengers!

Non-summer AF3831 10JUL 777-300ER 20rows in Business
Summer AF3884 25JUL 777-300ER 15rows in Business
I cannot check the changes in Premium or Economy (sorry about that... ) but already 5 rows of Business removed means a lot of new seats in Economy, actually much more than what the above short movie seemed to show.
But actually, wait a minute... is Premium Economy missing from those new BEST cabin ?
Or does the "summer change" mean that a special Economy section is created between Premium and what is left from Business ?
Or does the change mean that all Premium + 5 rows of Business are removed from 777-300 ER ?
I'm puzzled... but will be able to tell you more later in July for sure.
