On a side note, I think being a native French speaker helps in those circumstances.

Well, to be honest, they only started retrofitting planes a few months ago and AF has one of the largest fleet of long haul planes in the world so it was never going to be done in a few months in the best of cases! And they are always very slow at retrofitting planes which means that this is hardly the best of cases!

If it is your first international flight, I am sure you will be fine. It will be vastly more comfortable (and indeed more luxurious) an experience than you would get on any domestic flights with the marginal exceptions of AA transcon A321 and DL transcon 767s. Just make sure you get yourself a seat assignment for aisle or window (whichever you prefer) in advance to avoid the dreaded middle seat. NEV2 is not comfortable but if you fly NEV3 or NEV4 (I prefer the former, most people prefer the latter) you will be more than ok if you compare it to domestic experiences.

Side question : what's the deadline to cancel an award ticket and have the miles back ? (not a promo award)
AF still doesn't want to give me a window/ solo seat on SIN / CDG on award without status (the computer say yes then no, why the computer can't say no at the beginning ? remind me of some people...

I found a solo : window seat on BA A380 in F so that's acceptable)

Unless I am mistaken, there is no other deadline than having to cancel before departure.

I'd say 24 hours to be on the safe side.

Thank you, assume canceling on the AF web site is enough to have the miles back (i.e no need to call AF)

Does most people remember their first premium cabin trip ? I remember it very well, maybe I'm an exception ?

No, I remember mine very well too! (well, not quite - officially my first premium class experience was when we were upgraded when I was 1 but while my Mum keeps raving about her fond memories of that Air France gateau au chocolat, I'll admit I have no memory from that time. However, I do remember my first adult premium trip very well, which was also an upgrade).

Wha I meant was that when you are not used to it, it all feels absolutely wonderful even if it is not one of the better J products. In fact, I imagine that for anyone who has never flown anything else than Y, even W would feel like immense luxury.

Not a matter of status but linked to the booking class.
window seats on BEST are only allowed for J/C/D booking classes

No it's both: you get access with elite plus status OR flex fare so cedricgerald is indeed correct.

Seems that AF wants to build brand loyalty with very young PAX

I have not traveled in BEST, but I understand that the layout is similar to that of the traditional Cirus seats as on CX or other airlines, eventhough AF seats are different and a bit smaller.
In that case the center seats are still solo seats and not much worse than the window seats. You do not see your neighbor in the other center seat as there is a big mass between you. You have a little bit less elbow space, but hardly so. All seats have the head lying near the aisle, so same type of foot traffic noise when sleeping and same type of view when sitting. Frankly not much of a difference.

Thank you for these info.
Seems AF center seat are more private than CX center seat.

I don't know for CX but, for AF, the divider between the 2 middle seats ensure full privacy.

I don't believe CX has a divider ,
The CX seat can move forward to make it easier to speak with your partner

So SIN / CDG there is a risk of not having the BEST cabin ?
plus I have to OLCI asap to have a window seat
plus it's expensive 80.000 miles
plus it's AF and IMHO they didn't deal with my complain well (the seat was first confirmed for 1 or 2 days, I'm paying for AF bug on seat assignment for BEST / award).

I prefer to keep the few AF miles for promo award
I don't believe that 80 k miles for a single J flight it's a very good use of miles (OK someone told me lately that he spent 600 k for 6 Y ticket and he was very happy to have saved 5 or 6K euros) so eveyone feel it differently
