Have the same problem. We decided to keep the 2 consecutive window seats we were assigned by AF and visit each other now and then. Too bad AF doesn't have wifi or we could have talked via Skype. I wonder if walkie-talkies or something would work? There's no way we can sleep or keep quiet for 13 hours.

On my flight in the new cabin I had a window seat, but had a couple in my row occupying the two adjacent seats, they could talk to each other easily (when not having the headsets on), but to sea each other they had to lean forward.

What do you guys think?
I think it would be more useful to list destinations and flight numbers/times, although it's also good to have the listing by tail numbers for those who wish to double check that way.

However, to me the most important information is which flights will have the new J 1-2-1 seating with genuine flat beds.

It's not a joke, I guess we just have different priorities. I have a problem, I want to fly as comfortably as possible and be able to communicate with my husband and I am looking for solutions. I thought I was fairly safe when I booked, I expressly booked dates that were not ideal to me to avoid the refurbished 777-200s but now AF has changed both aircrafts.

It's a long trip, 14+ hours (13+ plus 1). Of course I can manage on my own, but I like commenting what i read, etc. If AF at least had wifi like Norwegian has had for ages I could have chatted via Skype (not voice). Done it before and it works great.

Next time I'll try Iberias new A330, at least I'll get a brand new plane with ambient lighting.

Well, Y and W feature indeed the "best" seats.

But forget about "beyond" : the J cabin has been equipped with brand new NEV4 seats [oxymoron inside].

And that ship flies insignificant routes such as YUL, GIG, DKR, ICN...
I do confirm for this brand new B77W. I flew in it yesterday from ICN: NEV4 and no BEST J ! I really don't understand. Even if AF wants to keep some planes in NEV4 (also something I don't understand but that's not the point here), is it not easier to have a brand new plane directly delivered with the new seats rather than retrofitting an existing one ?

It seems that all 777-300ER with 3 classes (J, W, Y) will have NEV J seats. Looks like it is a policy in the short run. If so, it would mean that all 777-200 (3 classes, no P on 772) and 777-300ER 4 classes will be the only ones to see the new BEST J seats, at least in the coming year(s).
Any exceptions that prove me wrong?

And will those 3-class 77W have NEV3 or NEV4?

I wonder what the logic behind it is. Could be for routes where AF has a high market share or a monopoly for the France-XX market which fills the plane "anyway", so why give BEST seats to those captive customers?

Crossing my finger that it will be all NEV4. All A330 A340 and 747 (soon gone from the fleet) have NEV4. But that's not the case on A380, where you can also get NEV3. Just hoping that seat roulette doesn't get more complicated than that for the years to come...

I checked the slides "Deploiement BEST", updated July 2015, that was linked in one of the thread. It states that:
- all 772 will be converted to 3-cabin with BEST J seats.
- all 77W 4-cabin currently with 8P will be converted to BEST in P and J. Only 4 P seats.
- all 77W 3-cabin will keep the current NEV4.
- all other planes have and will keep the NEV4, except 6 A380 which have NEV3.

When the retrofit is completed, we will have guaranteed BEST J on 4-cabins 77W and 3-cabin 772. But NEV4 on all other planes (NEV3 on 6 A380).

It will be difficult to implement a BEST J policy by destination.
Routes with P will have either NEV3/NEV4 (A380) or BEST (77W).
Routes without P will have either BEST on 772 or NEV4 on all other airplanes.

To be fair, certain routes are served only by one plane type and there won't be any confusion, except for substitutes (when a scheduled 772 gets replaced by a 3 class 77W). But then other routes are indeed a wild mix. JFK for instance sees about every longhaul plane in the AF fleet (except 343 and 744), so depending on day/time one flies, it could be BEST or not.

Not great, really. They should at least refurbish the 3 class 77W to BEST (some egoistic thinking on my part here, as one of my frequent routes where I take AF in about 20% of cases is served by 77W).

And I presume the plan to refurbish the 332 to BEST is still on?

If we exclude the 77W COI (used mainly for DOM-TOM and some primarily leisure destinations), there are still many 3-cabin 77W which are fitted with NEV in J (including newly-delivered). That includes planes with 42 J. Unfortunately, they are sent to many premium destinations.
If AF decided not retrofit all the 3-cabin 77W, I doubt that they are planning to retrofit the A330, A380. At least not in the near future, especially given their financial problems.
