When boarding last Friday at YVR on 238 to YYC the GA announced Zone 1 boarding and then the auto message came on fro zone 3. The GA got on the mic right away and said they were boarding Zone 2 and asked all passengers not Zone 2 to please clear the way so Zone 2 can board. I am glad she made the announcement as I was stuck at the back.
I think on the we will be boarding by zone message they should mention to board through your assigned lane.

AC162 YVR-YYZ May 20 was a complete and utmost failure. The worst I've seen in a long while.

The GAs did not know how/where to put the posts with the zone numbers and ended up giving up and did not use them. So no lanes, just a lot of people everywhere. Unbelievable...

After several months, zone boarding is still very inconsistent. And now AC will start enforcing carry on bag weight/size...! Good luck with that. I think AC bit off more (way more) than it can chew. Time will tell.

Did the GAs at least make the proper zone announcements despite giving up on the signage?

Simple translation: when consumers are exposed to the message frequently within a certain time frame, behavior can be modified (supposedly), so they will potentially buy the product or service being advertised.

Nothing is ever simple, but I'm running with it. I'll keep repeating the message that others here are also doing, that zone boarding is not exactly as described or promised by AC. Just saying.....
I would agree its not YET as promised. Part of the problem, in my opinion, is the lack of proper space at the gate area to make the zones work.
The zone channels need to be more defined in terms of where the begin and should be fenced off further back from the gate.

Hey, maybe that naked guy from Charlotte is available (say after his bail hearing) to come up here and add a little extra amusement to the current adventures... AC Optional Zone Boarding and The Return of the Baggage Police.

I like it when I'm in row 2 and the FA tells the row 1 late boarder to put their bag under the seat. Of course this means they take my foot room away.... how is this right?

That rarely works, and when it does, makes the row 2 person look like an arse.

I don't see why when I board with no carry-ons I can't at least have my leg/foot room as limited as it is.

I don't care what it makes me look like. It's my space. My feet are going to be there, kicking the space (or lack thereof) the entire flight.

The first time it happened to me, I let it slide.

Never again. Nothing goes under the seat in front of me unless I put it there.

Agreed. I will not tolerate anything in my foot space area unless I put it there.

Next *enhancement*: At Air Canada, we are thrilled to announce that you can pre-reserve your footspace for the mere fee of $15 per foot-inch.

This has happened to me and I tell the person to move their bag. I once told the lady who put her purse there that I was going to use it as a foot rest. She moved it right away.

completely agree. I've only had it happen to me once and I told them to move it or I couldn't be responsible for any damage.

Sat down in 2A one time and a large bag with an elite tag was already under 1A. I just called the FA and said it looked like someone from the previous flight had left their stuff on board. As I was speaking the bag was dragged forward by the lady already seated in front of me. She never glanced round or said a word.
