Is there a way to find the MPM for two cities for which Multi-City routings are invalid (e.g. they're in the same region)? Since multi-city search just gives an error and you can't search JSON...

Can you give the examples?

Specifically looking for PVG-LJG, which doesn't allow for stopovers and gives me an error message even if I try to keep the multi city layover location <24hrs....

Starting to look into a new mRTW next spring.

Ideally my stops are in Korea, Japan and Thailand. Departing from YUL.

An option for mileage would be to fly through Europe ( ZRH / IST ), but availability looks a bit spotty right now for March, and my points will be there in around 2 weeks.

Another option is to fly west and fly back the same way. I would love to try the JFK-ICN Asiana route either on the way there or back.

Now, what could i set as my turning point to stay within MPM? Is BKK good enough ? I wouldn't mind getting to ICN via JFK OZ, and then on the way back something from TPE and EVA. If BKK is not enough, i could make my turning point something like SIN.

If i can find availability via Europe, MPM wouldnt be that much of a worry i think, if my understanding of MPM is correct.

Recently updated wiki shows MPM being the most generous going from YYT to BKK (if you don't mind adding another connection, you can have Singapore as your point of turnaround and make your routing options so much better). The MPM seem to be based on the higher of either the TATL or TPAC routing if the city pairs are more or less on the other side of the globe. You will obviously need to take a positioning flight from YUL to YYT; I have not checked YHZ-BKK/SIN, but I suspect the MPM is only 500 less than originating YYT.

If you do decide to take a positioning flight to YYT, you can do YYT-YUL(AC)-IST(TK)-ICN(TK/OZ; stop)-BKK(TG/OZ; turnaround)-TPE(BR)-TYO(BR/NH; stop)-NYC(NH/UA)-YUL(UA/AC)-YYT and make sure the YUL-YYT flight departs the day following your NYC-YUL flight but within 24 hours of the YUL arrival. That way you can check bags to YUL only and just cancel the last segment after you've flown into YUL and gathered your checked bags.

If you fly into IST on TK and out on TK and your stopover there is between 6 and 24 hours, you can take advantage of Touristanbul offered by TK and it's free. Alternatively you can go YYT-LHR to gain another 2000 miles to work your routing.

Edit: Actually if Thailand turnaround was only meant to be a POT for MPM purposes, you can make DPS your POT and you'd have more than 16000 miles to work with for your routing (I am thinking MPM for YUL-DPS should be similar to YYZ-DPS, which is 16293). With this routing, one can even go DPS-SIN-JNB-NYC-YYZ/YUL and still have more than 1000 miles to spare. Guess I have my next RTW planned.

Odd, it's not coming up for me at all. Are you using multi-city or straight round trip or one way?

Multi-city. Make sure all three segments have availability on the dates you picked or it won't work.

MPM YOW MNL is 13,541
your actual mileage has to be within the MPM for each of the 2 parts of your trip- see below.

I am going to Patagonia in February / March and wanted to fit in Philippians and Africa as well. My learnings:
1) the magic formula to find MPM described above works wonderfully. (find a multi city route on Aeroplan to your far off destination and replace what is in the web link with aeroplan.com/adr/Results_Ajax.jsp?searchType=multicity&forceIkk=fal se ;and then find MPM in the maze of information by using "control f" mpm)
2) contrary to what i read in several articles and i believe above, your actual mileage has to be within the MPM for each of the 2 parts of your trip-- to and from your destination. You cannot multiply the MPM by 2 and add up the actual millage to see if it is less. If you are say under 2,000 miles going to your destination (furthest point) you CANNOT use that surplus to off set being over coming back from your destination. For that reason i could not go YOW MNL destination (MPM is 13,541) ; MNL ADD stop; ADD EZE stop; EZE YOW. I was under 2 x 13,541 overall, but over 13,541 MNL ADD EZE YOW.

I was able to use Perth (stay over 24 hours) which i did not fancy, but had to have as my destination so i can go to Philippians as well as Argentina. But i missed out on including a stop in Africa which i wanted to go to.

The AC scam charges EZE YOW were also appalling as they made up almost all of my $1,077 fees. Due to my Patagonia tour dates i had to use AC to go EZE YOW instead of United through EWR. To add insult to injury, although i booked business the EZE YYZ flight is PE-- although that is not so big a deal as its a day flight. I will hope to get business if it comes available of course.

If you can't get a business class seat before going to the airport, once there you can always ask. I once traveled with my wife, both of us in business class, but only she had a business class seat from YUL to YYZ. When I explained we had redeemed the whole trip in business class but only that segment was available only to one of us in business class, the lady at the check-in counter gave me a business class seat next to my wife. So, it never hurts to ask!

When there is an overland segment, I assume the distance also is included in the calculation, correct?

My assumption is MIA-PER MPM is 18K.

A potential itinerary would be like this

MIA-YUL-ZRH-VIE (stopover) (if MIA-ZRH has seats then there is no need for the YUL touchdown)
VIE-TPE-HKG (stopover)
HKG-SIN-PER (point of turnaround)
SYD-SIN-TPE-YYZ-MIA.

The outbound is 15609 at POT
The inbound is 16697 from POT, incl the overland PER-SYD.

So I still have quite a bit to work with, correct?

An open jaw will reduce the stopovers you can take to one.

That is not an OJ, because it is not at the Original and Return. Note the routing returns to the Original. MIA to MIA.

It seems overland at the Destination is allowed because a friend ticketed a trip that the destination is Chennai, MAA, but return starts at Munbai, BOM. System validated without any issue when she asked if she could use BOM instead of MAA to start the inbound.

Actual ticket example and explanation posted on another thread yesterday Dec 8. Go over there to check the example from real life ticketing and why it is allowed. Specifically from Post 471 and onward.

Overland is not the same as OJ despite it gives the impression as OJ but in strict definition, they are not the same concept. Luckily Aeroplan system seems to make such distinction too.

Your routing is an open jaw. If you have an OJ, you get one less stopover. Overland is not a type of ticket, it's just a description of the segment between the open jaw.
