Doc, I was just pulling your chain there with the suggestions of lovely Azerbaijan. I just couldn't resist when I saw Ganja as a city name (sorry, my typo above, not Ganga - fixed), when all this time I'd only thought of it as being another name for 'something else'.

Have yet to try this but it seems very useful. From Jeff, Canadian Kilometers:

And not even a THANK YOU note or acknowledgement to the OP (@Fly1234;) who shared this technique with the community here on FlyerTalk back in July.

I take it back if Fly1234 is actually associated with someone who spells metres the American way.

Ugh. Clearly, I haven't read the wiki and I've been caught

Let's view my post as a reminder for those who don't look at the wiki regularly then

On the phone with Aeroplan currently to find out the MPM between various city pairs (Ottawa, Montreal, Halifax) and Perth, Australia.

I was first told that the calculation is done by calculating between these cities to Vancouver, and then onward to Perth.

So the MPM I was originally told was as follows:

YOW-PER (2207+9204) = 11,411
YUL-PER (2208+9204) = 11,412
YHZ-PER (2752+9204) = 11,956

Seemed odd to me, so I asked him to verify. And then after a brief hold, the agent came back with this:

"There is one mileage calculation that you cannot go over under any circumstances and I now know how to find it."

Here was the revised mileage I was given:

YOW-PER = 18,121
YUL-PER = 18,194
YHZ-PER = 18,462

Hope that helps.

Edited to add: Wiki updated.

I am booking the following trip using aeroplan
YYZ-BRU-FCO (Stopover)
FCO-IST (Stopover)
IST-ICN-NRT (Destination)
NRT-TPE-YYZ

The aeroplan agent says that it is over the allowed mileage range, how do I check the permitted mileage for this trip and how do I calculate the mileage for my trip? On GCMap should I look at kilometers or what? Any suggestion on how to make this trip work?

First you need to figure out your point of turnaround. This is the farthest point from the origin. In your case, it's TPE.
MPM will therefore be calculated based on YYZ-TPE. From the wiki at the top of this thread, MPM is 10544.

So you can not exceed 10544 miles to and from TPE.

Total mileage on your itinerary to TPE is 12440. Great Circle Mapper

EDIT: NRT is destination, not TPE. But steps to validate are the same, MPM to NRT is 9049.

Thanks for your help. Here is what I am planning to book, will update tomorrow if it is successful

YYZ-BRU (Stopover)
BRU-FCO-ZRH (Stopover) (hope this one is valid)
ZRH-FCO-IST (Destination) (hope this one is valid as well, if not, will try ZRH-KBP-IST)
IST-LHR-EWR-YYZ

I am sure it is well under MPM (YYZ-IST is 8439 and the above is less than 7000)

The MPM mileage would be based on NRT, not TPE, which lessens the MPM even more. It's only based on the destination, not the connection cities.

NRT MPM is too short in order to travel via the Atlantic.

You're going through FCO twice before reaching your destination . This invalidates it regardless of mileage.

Ah, yes you're correct. They are not stopping in TPE, just transitting.

thanks.

YVR-BKK 12150

So that means one way I can't exceed 12150 right?

so YVR-YYZ-VIE-AYH-IST-BKK-PVG-NRT-YVR won't be a valid route since YVR-YYZ-VIE-AYH-IST-BKK>12150 ?

That's exactly correct.
