This was especially annoying because there is extremely limited overhead bin space on the CRA in the first place. And before the "deadheading crew are gods" faction chimes in, not all of these crew were even operating a flight that day--I heard them talking about their assignments. |
I have just flown LGA-YYZ having been cancelled off the Ottawa flight due to technical problems. (Friday AC721)
A few minutes after take off we had a dive and the engines were cut (never had that before!). Then saw a plane fly left to right slightly above us. A close miss? Great pilot! Thanks! ^ 2222 |

There was only one machine operating so one queue. When one of the passengers whined they brought all the priority people to the front of the queue in front of people who were about to walk through the machine which is poor form. They should bring one person at a time up just up ahead of people busy unpacking their bags on the table. The rest was pretty standard with not much warmth. The salad was quite nice this time. The beef was ok. The fruit was fresh and tasty. The breakfast was, well, see below. I was greeted by name when the SD was taking orders which was actually kind of nice. I found it less jarring than than the SD introducing themself by name which I've seen before. The breakfast (omelette and sausage) was a bit sad. It seems breakfasts are hard to do well on planes :( |

The only Air Canada uniformed staff at the gate was not any better. A formal complaint was raised about their embarrassing performance and has since been resolved. |

On a 4+ hour flight I wasn't able to finish a movie. Compensation provided (seemingly) to everyone on board. The map didn't work at all during the flight. 2) FAs allowed Y passengers to use the washroom in the gate cabin throughout the flight. At one point there were 4 people from Y lined up in the J cabin waiting to use it. This was partially due to the FA deciding to keep the curtain closed and not allow anyone into the galley while waiting. 3) Front cabin flight attendant and SD chatted in very loud voices which could be heard in easily in row 4. |

With the A321, the bins in this area are for emergency supplies. With non-priority passengers boarding early (and not rejected by the gate agent), they took the precious bins in this area so I had to store my carry on several rows behind me, even though I boarded early. |

Yes Note: IFE is an area that AC uses to differentiate it's service from it's competitors. In my opinion by adertising the service in this way it forms part of the implied contract of service. While a compensation voucher was offerred, the 5% discount which was attached to the compensation is woefully inadiquate. By not advising customers of the actual compensation it creates the appearance that the card being offerred is designed primarily to prevent the crew from having to deal with complaints rather than compensating customers for a lack of service. Compensation on a paid J service like this should be either several hundred $ or at minimum 20% of the airfair as AC charge a premium for premium service which in this case was only partially offerred. He looked around, smirked, and passed me one thin brown napkin - that's it. One napkin didn't do it, and the FAs in Y were at the curtain between Y and J, so asked one of them for more. She came to my seat, helped me clean up the spill, and asked if I needed a refill. I commented to her that "he wasn't very helpful." That's it, that's all, except that I asked who was the in charge. Turns out the SD was the guy working J. Ok. I sat down and went back to my newspaper. The helpful FA went up to the galley, had a conversation with the SD, and he approached my seat. He leaned over, about 12" from my face and hissed "you didn't ask for help, you asked for a napkin!" He stared at me, made a few other comments about me not asking him for help, and maintained a bug-eyed stare as he walked backwards back to the galley. I didn't say much at the moment, as I was really surprised and uncomfortable. Is the J cabin now self-serve? All I had said was that he was "not helpful", and couldn't understand why he was trying to escalate the situation with a confrontation. I certainly got put in my place! Avoided him as much as I could for the rest of the flight as I had no idea what he might do next. Maybe the heat during boarding had overly affected him - I don't know. Other passengers in J were commenting about the strange service during deplaning. |
